Man stabbed at sushi restaurant in Miyagi

With all these random stabbings I feel very unsafe here in Japan. It is not even summer yet.

I live in Kyoto and i dont think i can feel any safer.

I feel very safe here. In LA, we were afraid to be out after dark.

Might want to read the article again Mike, doesn't seem that it was anything to do with the acquaintance who just happened to be sitting next to the victim. As to whether it was random or not remains to be seen. The words "ex-gangster" have not been used (yet) so maybe it was random, who knows.

Okinawamike: The guy was sitting with an acquaintance when he was stabbed. I'm pretty sure if it were the victim's acquaintance he'd be able to describe him a little better.

Anyway, random stabbing of the day report is in, and it's only 8 a.m.!

I noticed most of the restos and establishment here in JP are installed with security cameras.. This one here doesn't have one, and also some those old shops around. I think it should be required for most public places like this one to atleast act as deterent and also evidence for crimes like this.

Really?? I know some people are desperate for some time off, but being stabbed is no vacation. And the injuries you incur may not be 'life threatening' that day but I'm pretty sure they don't find you well, and likely mean a shorter life span in total.

Anyway, it's becoming more and more a society in which you have to sit your back to a wall or always be looking over your shoulder. The stabbing rate for April alone is pretty high, and it's only the morning of the third.

The acquaintance in the article was not described as male or female so I'm taking a guess that if it was a female, some connection may be there. Random, I doubt it.

the elderly are dying alone at home, the young are apathetic about the future, and the men and women that run this society, can but bicker among themselves.. and a man is stabbed at a sushi bar, and it becomes news, with all the wrong reasons, believing that the attacker is a mad man.. which he certainly is. But, who made this mad man.. or rather, did not this society, create the environment for such a person to exist.. and act in such a way. Loneliness, lack of prospects, can drive a person mad.. much like a delinquent left alone at school, wanting attention.. or a person wondering in the mountains.. forgetting the sensibilities of the world.

It wasn't the acquaintance that stabbed him, and the gender of the acquaintance does not matter unless, and let me quote the article for you, (sic) "...when he was suddenly stabbed in his right side by a man who suddenly came into the restaurant" the man who SUDDENLY came into the restaurant was related to the acquaintance at the victim's side. I'm not trying to be rude, but why are you guys all assuming the stabber was the acquaintance when it clearly says he was not?

@ hidesuzuki - you make it sound like being stabbed is no big deal - like having your  tonsils out and back to normal in two weeks! Make no mistake - it will be a life-changer for these poor victims. Lets just hope the cops can catch the psychos out there, and we dont have to keep reading about these shocking attacks.

I never said it was the acquaintance who stabbed him. I did READ THE ARTICLE. It might be because of the acquaintance, as in "that's my (fill the blank)" and now I will stab you. Who knows.

Gee wiz if you are sitting in a restaurant and someone comes in and stabs you - I read what is written - it is random. Sheesh

And the girl can't identify the stabber, if it's a girl, beyond being "30-35 years and wearing blue coveralls"? It doesn't say he was hooded. It doesn't say he had a mask.

So let's see the potential scenarios:

a) a random stabbing -- at least the third this week.

b) A guy and a girl were sitting in a restaurant when an acquaintance she cannot identify suddenly came in knowing full-well where they were and stabbed the man and it was all planned.

Hmmm.... wonder which is more probable to be the case.

It would also mean she could identify him.

Maybe it WAS a guy next to him and the two are a homosexual couple, and the guy he was two-timing with came in and stabbed his partner of the moment, and now the two-timer CAN identify the stabber but refuses to because he doesn't want to admit he's gay and it was his boyfriend? Is THAT scenario a little better for you?

Was yesterday's Saitama stabbing maybe a conspiracy as well?

The assailant was described as being about 30-35 years old and was wearing blue coveralls.

Osaki shi... Just by Furukawa station. There is so many pachinkos that I call this place casino Japan. No wonder stabbing took place in such a location to me.

According to Sendai Broadcast, the employee at the restaurant stated that the incident took about 5 seconds and he was wearing a mask. Also, it appears that the victim is a regular there and while he was dining there on the night of March 31st, his car, which was parked outside the restaurant, was vandalized. There appears to have been a previous problem with the assailant and the victim before.

I really doubt this was random. Little place in the middle of nowhere Miyagi, most likely everybody knows everybody, especially after the big earthquakes, so who knows what these 2 guys had going on, could be a fight over money?? Women? Land? etc..So yup go cover your face with a mask and stab a guy enjoying his sushi, the real manly thing to do?? NOT!
