A motorcyclist who being chased by a police car collided with another motorbike in Kobe, and was flung into an electric pole support cable which cut him in half.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 8 a.m. Wednesday on National Route 2 in Tarumi Ward, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said the motorcyclist was exceeding the speed limit by 33 kilometers per hour when they stopped him. However, when an officer approached the motorcyclist to question him, he took off, running over the officer and breaking his right leg.

After a chase of about seven kilometers, the motorcyclist collided with another motorcycle driven by a woman, 25, who was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The man was flung into the support cable by the impact of the collision. The upper half of his body flew over a two-meter-high fence and fell onto the tracks of a Sanyo Electric Railway line, causing train delays of about 80 minutes. The lower part of his body landed on the sidewalk.

Ouch!

Typical....

I had to laugh out loud at this. So gruesome but quite hilarious in a black humor kind of way. Darwinism at its best here. I am just glad that the police officer and the other woman are going to make it out of this with not big injuries.

Nice descriptive story. I wonder how long he lived after it happened. Terrible way to go.

Atleast some idiots get what they deserve, too bad some other people got hurt

A candidate for this year's Darwin Award.

I wonder if losing his life was worth it to get away from a speeding ticket?

MsDelicious: Nice descriptive story. I wonder how long he lived after it happened. Terrible way to go.

Til the oxygen in the blood on the brain is used up (because no more blood will be traveling up that way). Says an answer on yahoo answers.

"... could survive anywhere from 2 min - 5 min or so depending on the temperature and your level of relaxation ..."

https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111211152139AAA6DFF

... If you mean horizontally the cut will go just through the top of the pelvis. This cut will include the descending aorta. When you cut through this you will loose all your blood within 30 seconds. When you cut through it however you also drop your systolic blood pressure to virtually zero, which means there won't be enough pressure to get blood up into your brain even if those vessles are still intact. Therefore the person will live for as long as their brain can survive on the amount of oxygen that it currently has at the moment the person is cut. This will depend on how active their brain is at the time and their temperature. People can be revived after drowning in icy cold water for a lot longer than if they drowned in warm tropical water since the metabolic needs of the brain are slowed down in the cold.

Therefore if cut in half horizontally you could survive anywhere from 2 min - 5 min or so depending on the temperature and your level of relaxation.

Damn!

Sounds like something right out of a horror film.

He did a very stupid thing, and paid the price with his life.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Bet he wasn't thinking that would happen while speeding, or when running from the cops. Hmmmm... maybe there are laws for a reason?

Final Destination Japan? What a freak accident, I thought mythbusters actually debunked this body cut by wire myth?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Damn... with that guy in Roppongi dying with a pipe through his head and this... I'm done with the news today.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Come on, JT. You don't have to be THAT descriptive. Frankly, I know there are a lot of people like myself who would prefer NOT hearing all the gory details. RIP young man. That is a sad way to go.

Sounds like something right out of a horror film.

I was thinking Mad Max.

Glad the idiot didn't kill anyone. As far as the details, keep it up JT.

Must be going pretty fast.

Running from or in any way attempting to evade the police is probably an action not to be recommended. A lesson for impressionable children.

Must have been going like the clappers.

papigiulio: Final Destination Japan? What a freak accident, I thought mythbusters actually debunked this body cut by wire myth?

Apparently they tried to bust myth that a ship's mooring line can snap and cut someone in half (person at reddit post says they failed).

Not that a body hitting a cable at the speed of a fleeing motorcyclist could be cut in half.

Is Mythbusters ever going to fix this myth or just wait for someone to get killed?

Atleast some idiots get what they deserve, too bad some other people got hurt

Seems very harsh. I don't think someone who speeds and runs from the cops, deserve to die, and a gruesome death at that.

Invention of guillotine and its heavy use during the French Revolution lead to attempts to communicate with severed heads. In particular Lavoisier, the chemist, made arrangements to communicate with his assistant after his decapitation. The assistant apparently counted over 15 consecutive blinks after the head got severed. Unlike with the guillotine, though, the trauma from flying through air, impacts, getting the torso cut in half, is not likely to leave room for a state of consciousness where one could ponder what happened.

Looks like in Japan more people get killed by police than by organized crime.

Yet another stupid police chase.

STOP the madness!

Yet another stupid police chase.STOP the madness!

Right, just let the idiots go and do nothing. Better yet, just cap their arse and be done with it, save everyone the time and trouble.

Chances are he didn't survive, but the story doesn't say if he did or not. I suppose there is a very small chance he survived if he was severed around the legs and someone stopped him from bleeding out. Either way, I have to agree that this person now serves as cautionary tale to other people who want to run for no good reason.

He didnt....and he wasnt severed around the legs either.

If police chases continue to result in death then surely police guidelines should be revised. And on any given day there are millions of vehicles exceeding the speed limit! However, it is a fact that the police overly target motorcyclists. In fact, police here will target roads (in the mountains) and wait for their prey! It is unnerving to suddenly be stopped on a mountain plateau in the middle of nowhere! Also,Japanese speed limits have not been adjusted to take into account the capabilities of modern cars.Route 2 in Kobe can easily be driven safely at higher speeds in certain places but the highest posted limit is 50k/hr. If speed limits in Japan are so selectively enforced then it is only a matter of time before we see more deaths!

Yeah, poor lady, and policeman, and the poor kids in the school bus, who ended up sitting in my classroom about an hour later! They all got a trip to the councillor. Our kids, mostly lower school, waited in the the ensuing traffic jam staring down at the still uncovered body parts. And JT did not go into as many gory details as what many of them saw. As for police pursuit, they did discontinue the high speed pursuit as soon as they realized how suicidal the motor bike rider was. And quite on his own, he did make a movie style attempt to go down the wrong side of a very busy road. Guess it was what we call a hard lesson for the kids! Maybe....don't run from the cops, drive on the proper side of the road, motorcycles can be dangerous.... a lessons that could last a long time!!

They didn't start chasing him until he ran over a cop and broke the cop's leg.
