Police in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, are looking for a man who threw sulfuric acid at two women in separate attacks on Thursday night.

According to police and media reports, the first attack occurred at around 6 p.m. on the second floor of the JR Takasaki Station building. A 44-year-old woman who was shopping told police she felt a stinging sensation after a liquid was sprayed on her leg and then realized that it had burned through her stockings, NHK reported. Part of her handbag was also burned.

She was taken to hospital to be treated for burns to her right calf.

The second incident occurred about one hour later at a shopping center four kilometers way. TBS reported that a 23-year-old woman suffered burns after a man threw a liquid at her leg.

Police identified the liquid as sulfuric acid from remnants left at the scene.

Sick man. Hope the catch him and lock him up before he can do this again.

These 2 women will probably have permanent scarring from this and will have to completely change because of it. I hope the man is caught, locked up for a long time and sued for every last yen.

"I'm stressed so I decided to destroy someone else's life"

Wait for it...

What's the bet it's some loner otaku trying to get attention? There was a spate of these kinds of attacks a couple of years ago in a few different countries in Asia. Hopefully, the trail to where he acid was purchased will lead the cops to the goon. It's not something you can buy off the shelf at the supermarket.

Acid attacks are murder attempts.

They better catch this guy and give him more time than the guy who poked holes in food packages with a toothpick!

This is really and totally sick. There are men who hate women for whatever reasons. If there is one thing that Japan needs is an overhauled and comprehensive mental health system.

This is a severe crime, very very disturbing to see this happen.

Perhaps the one and only time Kiyoshi and I will agree. This is messed up.

Let's all hope this criminal is caught, tried and put in prison very soon.

Just a note that sulphuric acid is also used in traditional printmaking, such as stone lithography, so small quantities can easily be bought in art supply stores. I've have a few drops on my skin when I was an art student, ouch! It is very dangerous stuff that will melt your skin. Even the fumes are hazardous.

Kokuzi. Sulphuric acid is sold in the supermarket. Sometimes they mix paint scrapper and acid drain cleaner and its far worse. People cant breathe when they have that in their faces and the lungs corrode. Its horrible

This is a sick crime. Using chemicals? Imagine what they're capable of in very large crowds.

Wc626: "Imagine what they're capable of in very large crowds."

Very little, unless they have a very large amount of the liquid in question. It's not an aerosol toxin or anything like that.

Quite indicative of misogyny being very alive and well in Japan. A so many aspects of this country are still mired in the stone age. Their concepts of womens' roles seem to be twisted. This guy was probably angry cause, women don't cater to his every need like his mommy used/ does to.

Nevertheless, its still kinda' scary. It would suck if they had large amounts of that acid during rush hrs in a busy subway junction.

I hope they recover fully, acid attack should be punished with life in jail, one spill onto the face and the person's life is over. i hope that they catch who did it even if it was on the leg

This sick man need an eye drop of sulfuric acid to stop him from attacking people anymore ...

Downright disgusting and the attacker is a pathetic excuse for a person if you ask me. Sadly you can't put all the blame on him though. Japan as a whole needs to take a look at their mental health care system and do something about it.

Latest news is that they've got surveillance footage of him. I can only imagine what I'd like to do to this scumbag if I ever crossed paths with him. Perhaps someday ought to disguise himself as a woman and wait for him around the Takasaki station area. Then it's Mr. Baseball bat meets lowlife!

They've got really good images of him from the station's security cameras. Unless he is a hermit someone must know who he is.
