Tokyo Metro says one of its new employees, a 21-year-old woman, has admitted to stealing lost-and-found items containing about 150,000 yen. The subway operator said it is preparing to file a criminal complaint against the woman who joined the company in April.
According to Tokyo Metro, the woman was assigned to Kinshicho Station on the Hanzomon line in July. She is accused of stealing lost-and-found items on two occasions -- on Sept 1 and Sept 26, Fuji TV reported. The stolen items included a bag containing 80,000 yen and a sealed envelope containing 70,000 yen.
The woman was quoted by company officials as saying she needed the money for living expenses. She was questioned by company officials after security camera footage showed her acting suspiciously in the lost-and-found section.

@Rana Sodhi i guess the metro's wage doesn't cover those trendy clothes and bags.

They lost it; she found it.

Um. Sounds like she ended up stealing handsome amount of money on the impulse of the moment. Now she has to pay dear for what she has done.

the fact that these items are even turned in with that much money in them is astonishing. but then to have it stolen by an employee is a bit ironic.

Maybe this can be added to that YouTube video of "Japan is thethe most honest in the world" where the guy stages himself dropping his wallet and claims everyone here is honest, etc. Doesn't seem to fly with his generalization.
As for the woman -- no sympathy. It's not like she turned herself in; she was caught and is making excuses.

When i was a kid i got hit buy a car right outside the police station after handing in a wallet i found with a tone in it (hundred pounds). broken leg cracked jaw and busted up toes, a little ironic. The guy found out about my accident and sent me a card with a POUND in it, that i found even more ironic.

What a determination! She actually got some money and ends up losing her job! No imagination, determination of potential damage in the future!

Does Tokyo Metro pay a living wage? Or enough money if one is living at home with no rent or utilities to pay or groceries to buy?
EyeOfTheCat
Well that woman knows how to make a career short, doesn't she?

Tokyo Metro can catch her in the act, but a hospital in Yokohama can't catch someone suspected of causing 46 mysterious deaths on a single floor in half that period of time?
Strangerland
No one is suspected of 46 deaths. You obviously misread that article.
