A 25-year-old woman was stabbed from behind as she was about to board a subway train in Tokyo, police said.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. Monday at Kasai Station on the Tozai line while the platform was crowded with rush-hour commuters, Fuji TV reported. The woman told police she was about to get on the train which she felt a stinging sensation on her buttocks. Police said the woman suffered a wound from a knife or sharp object.

Police are examining station platform surveillance camera footage to try and identify the perpetrator.

If he gets caught, all he has to say is that he was drunk and doesn't remember. What a sick thing to do, by the way.

nothing out of the ordinary in this section of news.

Clockwork.

Sounds like a stranger-danger or criminal for pleasure. It was good for her to have escaped death anyway. Hope she makes a full recovery soon.

The above link says that "she alerted personnel FIVE STOPS later"

So what happened between the stabbing incident and the FIVE STOPS? Any guesses?

Well done for the woman for reporting it!!

When you have a country that fetishisizes groping on trains (a common theme in adult videos, comics, and movies),and indifference towards the rights of women, you have situations such as this arising. What kind of country needs to enforce women only trains? A country that needs to step back and do some soul searching, thats what.

How many times have we seen similar reports here on JT in the last year?

There is at least one nutcase out there with a box-cutter, and if this is the same person, please catch him soon someone!!!

I keep seeing this claim here. It is simply not true. If you don't believe me, test it for yourself. Have a drink. Drive. Cause an accident.

To quote from the Wikipedia article "Women-only passenger car" - "They are offered on some trains in Israel, Japan, India, Egypt, Iran, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates, while passengers in some other countries have demanded their introduction."

Britain had them until 1977. To quote again from this Wikipedia article, "In September 2014, Parliamentary Under Secretary for transport Claire Perry MP mentioned a possible revival of the women-only carriages idea during a speech to a fringe event at the Conservative Party conference. In August 2015, Labour leadership candidate Jeremy Corbyn said he would consult on the option of introducing women-only carriages to help reduce harassment."

As it happens, there was a BBC program about women-only carriages in the UK when I was back in Britain in February.

Japan is a safe country??? Reading the JP every day seems to make me think different, I can agree it is safer than some other countries but the crazy's they have in the country need to be locked up. Also whats wrong with family killing family or the mothers killing their children this is a daily report. Looks like the once quiet society is starting to collapse and it will only get worse.

Wonderful thing, statistics. They can be made to say almost anything you want...

Ok, so where are the conflicting statistics then?

So funny how people in the comments are saying that Japan is not save blah blah blah, been to Japan twice and never saw anything, I live in the US and things and worse things happened like every 5 min don't you even think taking the subway here you might get killed for a pair of headphones or stabbed In the face yes it happens more than what you think is in the news like every single day, even back in my country DR worse things than this is dangerous everywhere in this world but at least Japan is the most safest countries. Trust me I'm scared walking home every night with a rock in my hands because you don't know what crazy person will jump you and kill you just because you looked at them or they like your shoes.

That station is packed with commuters at that time of the morning. I don't know if security camera footage will help. Possibly, one of the other commuters saw something and they can catch this loon before he strikes again.

The whole reported it after five stations thing is moot imp She was likely going to work if she's riding the train at 7:30 am. Likely she wasn't injured badly enough to risk being late and instead reported it at her departing or transfer station

@bullfighter,

Thanks for the data but I think it'll fall on deaf ears since understanding it requires critical thinking.

because you have been everywhere, right?

I love how this kind of thing makes the news. In a metropolitan area of 23 million plus.

Looking at it from this perspective -- the relative lack of street violence -- Japan really has achieved something unprecedented in world history. And goes a long way in explaining and making up for all the nonsense.
