Woman kills 16-year-old daughter, then stabs herself in apparent murder-suicide bid

A 16-year-old girl died of stab wounds and her 36-year-old Filipino mother is in critical condition after apparently stabbing herself at their home in Miura, Kanagawa Prefecture, police said Sunday.

The two were discovered by police accompanied by a relative at around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday night, Fuji TV reported. The relative had been worried at being unable to contact the woman.

The two were taken to hospital where the daughter was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

Police suspect the woman stabbed her daughter in the stomach and then herself in an attempted murder-suicide. A blood-stained knife was found near the mother, police said.

The mother and daughter lived with a Japanese man who was out at the time.

"The mother and daughter lived with a Japanese man..."

Who obviously was NOT the father or the husband!! :-(

I didn't even need to read past the headline to correctly guess that the mother's "suicide" attempt came up short.

As they seemingly all do.

Why mention her nationality?

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

nationality isnt derogatory. just an adjective or a noun whatever. the womans sojurn in japan might be connected to her country of origin, no? i mean we all come from somewhere. japanese were born here. everyone else has a nationality too. when details of said muder suicide are revealed later we will see if moms nationality was important to story. maybe not.

Kill yourself not others! Stupid woman.

Not enough details in this article. I can only assume that the mother was dissatisfied with her lot in life, ie. despondent Filipina in a failed marriage, while the daughter had an identity crisis. Guess we'll never really know. Seems to fit the typical pattern of Japanese-Philippine marriages.

Sigh... this happens far too often. I'm only surprised that the usual defenders of such murdering women aren't on here yet, asking us not to judge the mom (like they do the dads or step-dads), suggesting it was not her fault but some mental problem. At least they can't say it was PPD this time, given the child was 16. RIP to her -- far too young to die, and again at the hands of a selfish woman. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it is a shame when people reach the point where they feel they need to die, BUT if they DO reach that point, I wish they wouldn't decide to take others with them. Selfish, stupid woman. I hope she gets life in prison when she recovers, and can spend the rest of her life thinking about how great things are thanks to her actions, and how she stole everything from her child.

gogogo: "Kill yourself not others! Stupid woman."

A little more harsh than what I said, but same sentiment (wish they'd try to get help first).

Why mention her nationality?

The news has always been this way since before you and I were born. Remember when you would turn on the news and the newscaster would say for example, "the murder suspect was an African American male or Caucasian female." Yes people are people in but mentioning on the news the Nationality or race of a person who committed a crime has always been around.

Sad.. She could have seek help around her. Why kill your own blood..

Seems to fit the typical pattern of Japanese-Philippine marriages.

So most Filipina mothers married to Japanese men commit murder/suicide? I'm sure there are lots of happy couples, and ones who pretend to be so.

I think Lolozo up there answered the question of why the article has to mention her nationality-- to reinforce preconceived notions. That's what the news here is for.

Rubbish. Nationality is just normal information like any news story reports just like the area where it took place, the gender and age of the people etc. You people can read something into anything can't you.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

I have to wonder if the man was having relations with the 16 year old daughter. Mother kills daughter in heat of passion and then tries to kill herself? It is too early for the media to dig deeper into motive.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Option 1 - Mention nationality... people have a go at the Japanese media.

Option 2 - Don't mention nationality... people have a go at Japanese society.

Sheesh... give it a rest.

Yeah, after re-reading that comment, I can see how I was mistaken in what I wrote. That in no way implies including the nationality in the story reinforces preconceived notions.

You people can read something into anything can't you.

That's the kind of irony that makes the comments sections here so delightful.

"Filipino mother... stabbed her daughter... and then herself"

Now who says that foreigners can't adapt to and embrace Japanese culture?? ;-)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@TheGodfather. Agree. Looks like she strayed from her catholic upbringing in which murder-suicide is not as common as it is among japanese mothers, culture.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Who said the mother was Catholic? Not all Filipinos are Catholic.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@David Blue Seriously? do you really have to wonder along those lines? You don't even know them personally. If a relative or friend of the victim would see your comment they'll surely be mad.

Who said the mother was Catholic? Not all Filipinos are Catholic.

Don't know how many Filipinos you know (I know & have known MANY- both in US and here Japan) but about 90% of them are hard-core (devout) Catholics.

Filipina moms rank near the bottom of the list (unlike their japanese counterparts) when it comes to mother/child murder-suicide.

Is there anyway how to know more about this case?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Will you give updates about this case? I know these persons personally and up to know everything is not clear yet. Unless further investigations were done let's not judge the mother. Nobody knows what really happens yet

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We still don't know what really happens cause no further investigation was done yet. Where is the Japanese man anyway?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Mhaldita - "I know these persons personally"

So you actually KNOW the woman who murdered her own daughter? Is she a friend of yours?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@TheGodfather as I've said it is not yet proven that the her mother really killed her! They just found the knife beside her..is it stated that sh is holding the knife or it has her fingerprints in it? She is just a suspect and again further investigations should be done. The child is my children's classmate/bestfriend I've seen her mom several times attending the parent's meeting but I haven't had any conversation with her

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@Mhaldita - "The child is my children's classmate/best friend"

I think you should be using the PAST TENSE because the first thing you should come to terms with is that an innocent child is DEAD. Any sympathy that you may have should go to the girl.

There should be none left over to give to anyone else!! :-(

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I agree with @Mhaldita

@TheGodfather - "So you actually KNOW the woman who murdered her own daughter? Is she a friend of oyurs?

What's wrong with you? why do you keep on saying that her mom actually did that? yep, I know it's because that's what the news says. but you see, you don't even know the girl or the mother. Do you even know how close they are and how much they love each other? Can't you just wait for further investigations? And you said to @Mhaldita that any sympathy she has should go to the girl. Yeah, you've got a point there. But it won't be right if we blame her mother without knowing the truth. What if her mother didn't do it? Blaming her mother without knowing the truth won't give justice to the death of the girl.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@TheGodfather I may not be good in English/grammar as you are all I know is if the other person is dead it doesn't mean that the relationship she had with others should die too.. She IS my children's bestfriend and I know that she will always be. I am requesting for further investigations because I want to know the whole truth to give JUSTICE to the girl's death! Isn't that enough SYMPATHY? @asdfghjkl0004 thank you for understanding my point I am not defending the mother or anyone else all I wanted to know is the whole truth..after all anyone is innocent until proven guilty

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Mhaldita - "She IS my children's best-friend... the mother... innocent until proven guilty"

You are obviously hurting right now... and finding things difficult to deal with. It may help if you tell us what you know about "the relationship she had with others"

I AM ready to listen...

My prayers and thoughts to their family. May the 16 year old girl rest in peace. Hope she get the justice soon. :( :( :(
