One late afternoon on a beautiful Saturday evening in the summer of 1973, I was driving to nowhere particular on I-64 in Hampton Virginia. I had just returned from Vietnam a few days before and checked in to my stateside duty station for the last few months before getting out of the service. Three guys were standing beside a car stopped on the highway, steam pouring out from the engine. I stopped to give them a ride. It turned out to be a rental car and two of the guys were Beach Boys and one was their manager. I drove them to the Coliseum at the next exit and they asked if I wanted to stay to see the show. I ended up backstage in the dressing room before the show, and they gave me a backstage pass to come back after the show.

I ended up going to a party with all of the guys and their entourage. They were all really nice and down to earth. Well, except for the drugs, booze, wild stoned girls, groupies, hangers on, enablers, pimps, dealers, whackos, tie-dyed hippies, et al.

:)

Boomer stories have always made me smile. They seem like a fantasy world a million miles away. They are sad in their own way like all old self-promotion but I can forgive them. The sooner they are gone the better but it is nice that movies like this are being made for prosperity.

Gosh that sounds awful. How did you survive? :-)

@skinnee, you say, 'Boomer stories...seem like a fantasy world a million miles away...said in their own way like all old self-promotion but I can forgive them. The sooner they are gone the better..." Obviously, you're not a Boomer, nor, I think a fan of '60s music. So here are a few questions for you: Are the new non-boomer stories any different? Are selfies any different? Wouldn't it be just as appropriate to say the sooner those things are gone the better?

Ha! Scroll forward 30 years, listen to the gen-Z+Z+Z'ers complain about the millienials, let's hear your tune, then! :)

I agree that the late 60s ushered in an era of narcissism. But it has only gotten worse since then. I can't imagine how dull these stories will be in 20 or 30 years. At least Brian Wilson wrote some nice songs - and they will still be getting covered for some time to come.
