The latest album from 33-year-old Japanese singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada — “Fantôme” — has reached a record by securing holding the No. 1 spot on the Oricon Chart for 24 consecutive days since its release on Sept 28.
Furthermore, it is the first time for an original album to hold the No. 1 spot for three consecutive weeks since hitting stores. The last artist to hold this record is Namie Amuro, 39, who achieved the feat with her album “Uncontrolled” released back in July 2012.
“Fantôme” (meaning “apparition” or “a presence” in French) is Utada's first album in 8 1/2 years. Since 2010, Utada had been on a hiatus. In 2014, she surprised many fans by announcing her marriage to an Italian man eight years her junior. In 2015, the Japanese pop star announced the birth of her first child, a baby boy.

Congratulation.

When it was announced that she was releasing a new album, I recall a lot of people here saying she was washed-up. Not surprisingly, they were wrong. Good to see she's still able to find success.

I was one that was pleased to hear about her comeback and said as much in this forum. I am pleased that she is enjoying success so far.

Just because she is holding #1 doesn't mean the album sales are doing well. The record companies can control the numbers but manipulating orders!!! I am not saying she isn't a great singer but I know this industry and how they can make a record #1 before it sales 1 copy!

Regardless of the sales numbers, I think Utada has a beautiful singing voice and I can appreciate that alone.

Last time Ms Utica was on JT news there were many fans who wrote to encourage and applauded her. I did not read negative comment.
