Rie Miyazawa gives birth to baby girl

Actress Rie Miyazawa, 36, gave birth to a healthy baby girl at a hospital in Tokyo on May 20. Miyazawa, who married last month and currently resides in Hawaii with her husband, a former pro surfer in his 40s, made the announcement via a statement to media on Saturday.

The actress described how strongly the birth affected her, saying, "I think the 10 months we spent together, and the moment she was born, are the greatest gift I could have received." Miyazawa wrote that she is looking forward to life with her husband and daughter, and "I'm excited to see us grow together as a happy, healthy family."

Rumors has originally indicated Miyazawa would give birth in Hawaii, but the actress' management reported that the birth had taken place in Tokyo, at a hospital in Minato Ward famous for infertility treatments and maternity aerobics.

Miyazawa had originally revealed her pregnancy and plans for marriage in a statement in February. On April 2, the actress celebrated with friends and family at her garden wedding in Aoyama, registering the marriage around the same time. Her last appearance before taking maternity leave was on March 7 at the opening of the film "Gelatin Silver Love" in which she stars.

Congratulations and may true happiness always be by your sides.

I hope Rie realizes how she was turned into a showbiz commodity by her mother and gives her own daughter a chance to have a normal life. It won't be easy since I suppose as soon as the kid is old enough to walk promoters will be hounding her mercilessly with fistfuls of yen.

Gelatin Silver Love sounds like a blast. Good luck with being a sleb mum.

I am sure this baby is going to be much better looking as an adult marrying a surfer rather than a sumo wrestler. Good luck and enjoy.

Pardon my being so negative, but why is it so wonderful that a woman who married an "ex-pro surfer" only after she found out she was pregnant, gave birth? Is this the new social order in Japan? People getting married only when required to? Seems like that's all the stories about cleb marriages of late have been about. Yes, Rie has certainly overcome a lot of issues in her life, and deserves to be happy. No doubt. But why is unplanned pregnancy suddenly so fashionable here?

"But why is unplanned pregnancy suddenly so fashionable here?"

It's not a fashion. It's just that some want to make sure they can reproduce before signing into this institution called marriage. That way chances of a long lasting contract are better guaranteed than signing it first and keep waiting for results.

Proffesor -- lol. Most of these pregnancies are "unplanned", as I said. (Or do you not understand the meaning of that word?). Your explanation only applies to planned ones. Respectfully, there are way too many "delicate situations" of late here in Japan among the celebs for these all to be considered/rational decisions.

Probably people are just a lot less hung up about it being known that the cart came before the horse, as it were. It happened before, but people had 'premature' babies instead.

Rie, you carried your daughter for around 9 months not 10.

OK, so here we have a person who has (1) attempted suicide; (2) posed in the nude at the age of 19 (you go girl!); (3) was engaged to be married and then cancelled the engagement by the age of 20; (4) attempted suicide by slitting her wrists at the age of 21 but blamed it on an "accident"; (5) developed an eating disorder shortly thereafter; and finally, (6) married a "pro" surfer. Oh yeah, she is destined to be a fantastic mother! One can only hope she is (1) on the meds, and (2) remains on the meds.

Kinniku

In Japan, the term of pregnancy is counted as 10 months.

"her husband, a former pro surfer in his 40s"

What does he do nowadays?

After all Rie Miyazawa has reportedly been through over the years, I'd like to say nothing more than than congratulations and good luck!

"Rumors had originally indicated that the birth would take place in Hawaii,... bt the birth had taken place in Tokyo"

So the girl will have only a Japanese passport.

I see...how nice! I'm happy for them. I wouldn't be able to smell my parents' doorstep again if I were to do that....lol.

Anyway, I'm happy for you Rie, regardless of whether you were nude, suicidal or whatever. Congratulations!

smartacus,

In Japan, the term of pregnancy is counted as 10 months.

Yes, I know the average Japanese thinks this and they are mistaken. As you may know, this is because most Japanese outside the medical community mistake 10th for 10. However, since we are all humans, Rie carried her baby for 9 months and had it in the 10th month.

Hang on a second... Gelatin Silver Love???

Japan passport doesn't matter. Baby will have dual-passport until she becomes of age and picks one.

Best of luck to her and child!
