Daikanyama is the place to go for limited edition pop-up stores this summer. Not only will they have a below-freezing Kit Kat Chocolatory in the neighbourhood, they’re also playing host to the Häagen-Dazs Summer Terrace cafe, with eight delicious new original menu items incorporating the famous ice cream. We stopped by to check out the cafe and were blown away by the delicious flavours. Come with us as we take you through the unique menu.

The Häagen-Dazs Summer Terrace is located inside Sign, a cafe right next to Daikanyama Station. While it was raining when we visited, the outdoor seating area is usually a great place to unwind and relax.

Taking a seat inside, we took a look through the menu. All the items are made using the ice cream flavours found in the popular ready-made Häagen-Dazs mini tubs, which can be purchased from supermarkets and convenience stores around the country. The beautiful-looking Hibiscus Granita below uses Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream and retails for 880 yen.

The eight menu items are classified into three categories: Granita, Croissant Ice Cream Sandwiches, and Shakes. We ordered one from each category, and they were all absolutely delicious. In the photo, left to right: Brown Sugar and Kinako Toasted Soybean Flour Granita (880 yen); Cookies & Cream Shake (480 yen); and Apple & Mango Croissant Ice Cream Sandwich (1,080 yen).

The Brown Sugar and Kinako Toasted Soybean Flour Granita included warabi bracken starch dumplings and fresh figs, all placed neatly beneath a generous serving of green tea ice cream.

The textures of the smooth ice cream with the crunchy granita worked together beautifully, while the sliced figs and dumplings added to the earthy, yet wonderfully fresh flavours.

The Apple & Mango Croissant Ice Cream Sandwich contained whole walnuts and slices of fresh fruit, all inside a warm and buttery croissant.

Using vanilla ice cream as the highlight, the contrast between the cool sweetness and the warm flavours made for a tasty and memorable dessert.

The shake was rich, thick and incredibly delicious. Using the Cookies & Cream-flavoured ice cream, this was filled with the luxurious texture of Häagen-Dazs that we all know and love. Topped with real cookie pieces, this had one-and-a-half mini tubs of ice cream inside it. We’d hate to know how many calories it contained, but it was well worth it for a treat, as the creamy drink was absolutely divine.

The pop-up store and dessert items are only available for a limited time, between 21 July and 19 August. In addition, each dish on the sweets menu is only available to the first 50 customers per day, so be sure to get there early so you don’t miss out!
