What do you expect to come out of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's meeting with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in New York on Thursday?

A slightly stronger yen, as I think Trump's campaign language about Japan is partly behind the recent weakness.

More covert power for the Nippon-Kaigi.

My biggest fear is that Trump will urge Abe to scrap Article 9. But maybe Trump won't know what Article 9 is.

As always with Trump, some sure-fire comedy zingers! Maybe some risque semi-racist comments too.

What do we expect from this meeting?

A public announcement of what has already been decided weeks before.

I expect a photo op of a handshake, a smile, Trump with a thumbs up and boilerplate announcement about blah, blah blah...

Not much. Maybe stronger yen

No doubt both sides will reaffirm their countries 'long-standing alliance' and are looking forward to strengthening the relationship blablabla. Abe is a good option for any newly appointed/elected Western PM or President, as predictable as one can be.

I expect abe to come back saying 'LET'S MAKE JAPAN GREAT AGAIN'.

But seriously, Abe will trade the Japanese troops and the article 9 for TPP.

A better Trump mask.

Trump will be on the left from our view so he can really do a huge and hard handshake in the post¥ition of power.

Well... think, what does Abe want and what does Trump want? Abe wants good relations and for the Yen to further weaken versus the Dollar. Trump wants Japan to pay more for the U.S. Military personnel stationed in Japan. Easy enough, Abe agrees to increase the budget for the U.S. Military by around $5 Billion... and Trump agrees to work towards weakening the Yen vs the Dollar.
