have your say

Why do we mark anniversaries of tragic events like 9/11, Pearl Harbor, the March 11, 2011 disaster and so on? For example, does the 15th anniversary of 9/11 have any more meaning than the 13th or 14th

Until the truth comes out about 9/11, any anniversary is meaningless and an insult to those who were sacrificed.

Right on Bertie. BTW, thanks for the video link the other day. About halfway through. All evidence points to an implosion of all three buildings. Never.....NEVER.....has a fire brought down a steel high rise building.

Anniversaries are healing to the people who have lost loved ones. It's nice to have a regular period of remembrance, and it's also nice for them that the world doesn't let their tragic deaths be forgotten.

The problem is when governments use such anniversaries to push their own agendas, which can easily be tied in with tragedies. "Remember X? It was terrible. That's why you need to vote for Y next month." "Remember X? It was terrible. Therefore, you need to support the current military action which is vaguely connected, maybe, but in need of public support (or apathy) to continue." It isn't communicated as directly as that, but it certainly gets mixed in subtly.

It would be nice if they'd take advantage of the anniversaries to raise awareness of important issues - the continued homelessness and health issues of the people around Fukushima, etc. But sadly, political leaders are rarely selfless in such ways.

The US House and Senate unanimously passed a bill for families to sue the Saudi Arabian government for the attacks. There is no doubt this was an inside job. Hey JT mods, you can delete all you want, but you should be told you're just deleting the truth.

Knowing and reviewing history prevents repeating bad things.

So first, because we live on a planet that takes an eliptical path around our sun which we can track by the motion of the stars, resulting in us organizing our society on a repeating calendar model where our memory of an important moment in the past can be triggered by seeing a repetition of the date it happened on in the future.

Second, because humans have 10 digits divided across two hands, so we tend to base our numeral systems around 10 and tend to find multiples of 5 and 10 meaningful.

For example, does the 15th anniversary of 9/11 have any more meaning than the 13th or 14th anniversary?

If you feel it does, it does. If you don't feel it does, it doesn't.

Of course it doesn't. You're too scared to post anything questioning the official story. So, I have to post it in the comment section. But then you delete it for being off topic. If you never bring up the topic on your news page, then where does the truth go? Down the toilet just like your company.

While fixating on it (and its norms) condemns one to repeat it.
