If the price was a steal, would you be willing to move into a house where the previous owner was murdered?
Two years ago in Chiba Prefecture, the owner of this mansion met a violent death after being stabbed in his home with a tool-like object that police were unable to recover from the scene of the crime.
In Japan, properties that were the sites of suicides or other tragedies are commonly referred to as “accident properties”, and can often be had for much below market value by prospective renters and buyers brave enough to turn these crime scenes into their homes.
This particular mansion is currently up for grabs on Yahoo! Japan Auctions for the extremely low asking bid of 7,560,000 yen for registered auction participants until May 17. For a house in Japan, it’s unbelievably large, with a dining room and kitchen, toilet and bath, and 10 bedrooms. Just for reference, a somewhat smaller house in this area, without any bad mojo associated with it, would easily run about five or six times the current opening bid price.
That said, due to being left uninhabited after the incident, it would be quite the fixer-upper, since the interior of the property isn’t exactly in pristine condition.
But for fans of the occult or houses that could possibly be haunted, the 289.1-square-meter property would provide a cushy place to crash after a little bit of DIY or renovation work. Located near Toke Station on the JR Sotobo Line, it’s only about an hour from Tokyo, and a 50-minute ride to Tokyo Disney Resort, where we’re sure Mickey and friends would provide enough distraction to keep your mind off the mansion’s horrific history.

I just checked the auction site, and couldn't find this listing. I am guessing it has already been sold.
There were some extremely inexpensive houses on the Auction site, but I would be leery about scams. Does anybody know of anyone who has bought a house or property in Japan through an auction site?

once I found a perfect apartment literally in the middle of Osaka , 2LDK with a large balcony for 40.000. My girlfriend refused it right away after I told her that somebody died there (during a robbery).

My understanding is that you're required to tell people of that it's a 告知物件 only when selling the property right after the incident. After it has passed to a different owner, you no longer are required to tell people someone died there. So this is perfect for buying then flipping...

thank you for the link forzaducati! but why they didn't clean up the place before posting the pictures? It's not that much trash, leaving everything untouched like that only makes it even more like a crime scene. and whats this thing for putting mosaics in literally everything in this country?? do you have mosaics on handcuffs, surround areas of crime scenes.....and kids faces on facebook (creepy!!!) why upload it in the first place?

You are required to tell people even if you resell.

Hmmm if we believe ghost or something, of course we should not purchase that house even if it is very cheap. But if you have not known previous incidents before buying house, how should we do after purchase? Nevertheless to say, we must check everything, the place, the average price, the city etc in advance. And re-sales are better.

If you are looking for a house in proper inaka, i.e., old farming communities, loads of them are right next to graves. It's not that rare to have neighbours' graves across the street or visible from your living room window.
If you go far enough back in history, lots of gruesome things will have happened in lots of places. I don't like to think about it!

Wow if it were not so far away i would snap it up, fix it up, rent 1 room for free to a trusted person/manager and run the rest as air bnb or for newbies to japan. Tokyo folks jump on it quick imo.

Apart from the awful grammar in the title that's a pretty interesting story... Someone being killed there wouldn't really bother me that much. I don't believe in ghosts so that fear wouldn't drive me away from it. My imagination is another matter, however hahaha
