Nipples are bad, y'see.

Not man-nipples, mind you, they're fine.

Lady-nipples. They're very bad. Far too stimulating to show.

Ladies should keep their nipples hidden at all times. Any other part of their exterior is fine to have exposed. Just not the nipples.

Playboy magazine has always shown some kind of nude or close to nude photos of attractive women, if that doesn't happen, then Playboy should close there doors and publish a whole new magazine.

It just makes business sense in the current market. Removing nudity from their publication allows them to reach a broader market easily and has the bonus of allowing them to pay their models less per shoot.

Personally think that it is a little saddening that the war on womens' bodies (as Maria above highlights) is leeching into a magazine that in many ways was revolutionary. Admittedly the objectification of the female form in these magazines has always been problematic but when a magazine geared towards objectifying the female form gives into the pressure to hide the (lady) nipples then we are heading more and more towards a society of (even more) blatant inequality.

so that will put some people here in Japan out of work - all the scratching technicians who destroy the pictures with marks on the pubic regions.

I think Playboy did this for one very specific reason: they want to have a presence on social media. Remember, just about all multinational social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Gree, Line, WhatsApp, WeChat, etc.) have strict prohibitions against nudity, and Playboy wants to be a major presence on social media in the near future.

Pornography is so passé.

A sign of the times. Until Internet, nude photographs were a special treat. You went to either printed or video-tapped pornography, art magazines or magazines like Playboy, which also featured very good essays, fiction and interviews. Now with the social media, dessert is all over the place. Search Nudes or something like that and you get lots of websites. These days even Flickr is no longer uptight about nudity, even not "tasteful" nudity.

The sad thing is that not all nude photographs are well done. Most are not. Playboy magazine had excellent photographers who worked with large format cameras and knew their craft well.

Today, anyone with a digital camera can be a nude photographer. No need anymore to go red in the face to Kmart to have your naughty film developed. Do your nude photography in the privacy of your home, Photoshop it in the privacy of your home office, and then upload your girlfriend, wife or mother on the Net where millions can see your brilliant work.

Oh Playboy, an end of an era. After 62 years we hardly knew you.
