A 14-year-old girl died after she was hit by a train in Hiroshima, police said Thursday.
According to police, the girl was among a group of 10 students who were on their way home from school in Hesaka-Yamane, Higashi Ward, at about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday. Eyewitnesses said they were playing by the tracks on the JR Geibi line when one of the girls went onto the tracks where there was no barrier, NTV reported.
Police identified the girl as Yui Hattori, who lived nearby.

Seems to be a number of Darwin awards being handed out today. This young woman and the young man on the bicycle among others.

sure that's not a mistake for "4 years old"?

Because she was foolishly playing on train tracks. RIP to the girl and thoughts to her family. But she and her friends should of known better.

This is incredibly sad. I can't believe something like this can actually happen. Bad decision for girls that age to be playing along the tracks and then this happens. Sad day for many people I'm sure. Wow!

Is this the full story?
I wouldn't be surprised if is a case of bullying and one of the ten girls threw something, belonging to the victim, on the track. May have looked like horseplay to some.

And none of the eyewitnesses thought to chase those little kids further from the tracks???

Oh, that is sad. i used to ride that line alot, it's the countryside, and there are no barriers. But the train warning lights go on very early, so the girl must have been used to it, and waited to long, or was trying to show off. What a shame. God rest her soul.

Too many of these incidents lately. Makes you wonder how many don't make it to the news.

In the Uk there has been public service anouncments telling children about "not to go off with strangers" and "how to cross roads", and "one about train crossings", do they have them in Japan ? if not, why not it could have saved this young girls life! how sad for all.

A 14 years old, I wonder if she did not hear the train coming from a distance ot the train just suddenly appeared too close for her to escape. I feel sorry for her though.
