A 14-year-old girl lost a fingertip after an elevator accident at her school in Shiraoka, Saitama Prefecture.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the junior high school. Sankei Shimbun reported that the girl was getting off the elevator on the second floor of the school building, but the string on a shoe bag she was holding in her right hand got stuck in the door of the elevator. The elevator kept on moving and the girl's fingertip of her middle finger was chopped off.
The girl was taken to hospital where she was in a stable condition on Wednesday.

So, she got out of the elevator and then stopped; where have I seen that behaviour before? Of course, everywhere in Japan.

So wait.... the string of her bag got caught in the door, the elevator continued moving, and she lost a fingertip?
She never thought to let go ?

She had it slung over her shoulder, and the finger in the string. As she stepped out, the bag was caught sharply behind her and dragged down before she could get her finger out.

Of all the bits of the human body, the fingertips can best regrow. Usually up to about eleven years old, but at fourteen, she's still got a chance. : )
