Twenty-eight people suffered tearful eyes and sore throats after the contents of a canister were accidentally discharged in a Tokyo train car on Thursday night.

According to police, the incident occurred on the Toyoko line near Gakugei-daigaku Station in Tokyo's Nakameguro Ward at around 11:45 p.m. TBS reported that a group of four people accidentally activated the personal protection spray inside the carriage. The canister reportedly contained extract of chili pepper.

Out of the 28 people affected by the spray, 10 were taken to hospital where doctors described their injuries as minor. According to police, the four individuals in possession of the spray were intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Were they arrested? Charged?

Pepper isn't the worst kind of spray I've seen drunks discharging in public here.

That`s my stop - fortunately was at home then.

I suppose that is one way to ensure you get a seat.

Shame on me... I started reading this, fully expecting the perpetrators to be thoroughly furriners.

Didn't know you could get those sprays in Japan. I wonder where they got it from?

People are so dumb when they are drunk.

That is so funny! They will always remember that night when they got drunk, one of them messed with a pepperspray and they all ended up in a koban... When I read these kind of stories I wonder if I drink too little...

I get drunk and do stupid things but this is crazy! Haha

Maria - you can buy them in Akihabara, among other places.

Accidentally Pepper spray the train car.. ? If #1 car is for women #2 for seniors then the last car needs to be a bar car for drunks..

I could understand if there was panic on that train if people was thinking about the Sarin Gas attack from the Aum group back in 1995.

So trains have security cameras yet?

Sounds like they had a grand time!!

I had the same idea as Maria when I saw the headlines: What are those foreigners doing now. But I'm thinking with stereotypes. Well, the article does not say they were not foreigners, or that they were Japanese. It just says "a group of four people". What is one to think?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

If the people involved were foreigners, the media would typically make it clear. Since they are not going into detail, I'm going to assume they were Japanese.

" 10 were taken to hospital where doctors described their injuries as minor."

So minor is a byword for asinine? Yo have to admit, they kind of got what they deserved!

Miso, 10 innocent people had to go to the hospital due to what happened. They didn't deserve that and if those in the ten were drunk they still didn't need that to happen to them.

Whenever people are drunk and something happens I see it as no accident. They are not fully in control of themselves. They are a threat and disaster waiting to happen.

Hope the people on the train heal up quickly.

That's awesome

Whenever people are drunk and something happens I see it as no accident.

Exactly my point - they had a choice to drink, and over did it. The worst bit is they affected innocents as well.

This could cause allergic reactions and panic. Those louts should be arrested and at least charged with creating a public nuisance.

It doesn't say in this article, yet, that all four were male.
