3 perish in Sapporo house fire

5 Comments

Three bodies were found Wednesday morning in the ruins of a house that was destroyed by a fire in Sapporo.

According to police, an explosion was heard in the home of Tadashi Kaneki, 74, at around 6 a.m. Shortly after, flames were seen coming from the wooden house and the fire spread to two neighboring houses, Sankei Shimbun reported. About 25 fire trucks were mobilized to fight the blaze.

Police said the three bodies were Kaneki, his wife, also in her 70s, and their second-oldest son, in his 40s.

How do you get 25 fire trucks in a neighborhood to fight a fire in only 3 houses? We can't even get 25 cars in our neighborhood without some serious issues.

25 trucks? Daisy chained together to surround the neighbourhood twice or more? How many were actually hooked up to water since I doubt there were 25 hydrants

Sankei photos show a house with long side along a road with apparently an open space across from it from where the photos were taken (or maybe another parallel road a bit downhill). But maybe it wasn't '25 fire trucks', but 25 vehicles total, including fire dept. SUVs, police vehicles, etc.

@turbostat,

About 25 fire trucks were mobilized to fight the blaze.

Maybe, but it specifically stated fire trucks otherwise I would agree

I know, but maybe they weren't all large vehicles. The other article said the fire was 1 km east of Hassamu station, looks like a medium dense residential area. 8 long blocks worth of medium fire trucks or 25 blocks of long trucks wouldn't be much use, probably.
