Some 80 personnel from the SDF’s First Airborne Brigade rappelled from helicopters with parachutes

So what was it they rappelled from the helicopters or they parachuted from the helicopters? Its one or the other but cant be both.... Another example of award winning journalism......

Not to mention the two vessels being deployed are coast guard vessels not military vessels. Little bit misleading the way the article was written

Great use of the helicopter. Did any Osprey participate?

Maybe the helicopters had parachutes...?

Saw on the BBC today that China plans to land there and map out the islands and surrounding waters. Can't find this news reported anywhere in the J press.

Hard to believe the Chinese would attempt that, nanda.... that would be a real live international incident.

Some 300 troops took part in the 40-minute drill with 20 warplanes and more than 30 military vehicles at the Narashino Garrison in Chiba, southeast of Tokyo.

Ummmmm does Japan realize the size of the Chinese military?!? That's not going to do it. Since ww2 Japan has become a peaceful nation. Though I see now not by choice. The Japanese people are weak now. The are not warriors. They are cowardly metrosexuals with video game hair. I see daily Japanese men cower from ravens and they are going to fight china.

Chinese life is hard and life is cheap. They have to fight just to survive.

Maybe Japan's government should invest into some military intelligence. Or just wiki Japan's and china's military power.

Japan's active military personnel is ranked 24th http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Self-Defense_Forces

Active personnel 247,746 (ranked 24th) Reserve personnel 57,899

China's active military personnel is ranked 1st http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Liberation_Army

Active personnel approximately 2,285,000 (ranked 1st) Reserve personnel 800,000

If china wants those islands. China will have those islands. The fact that Japan even is thinking of fighting those odds over uninhibited islands for fishing rights is a testimate of their governments stupidity.

If Japan fights for these little islands. Japan will lose ALL their islands. Period.

The PRC never said anything about "landing." Surveying, however, will require close proximity over a long period of time within Japanese territorial waters. Obviously, China is edging and edging to the brink.

They will keep this up until Japan asserts its authority over these islands and prevents further encroachment. If Chinese surveillance ships remain in Japanese territorial waters for an extended period, even without landing, Japan must regard this as an invasion.

Likewise, Japan must call on the US for military support. After all, what are our Ospreys doing there in Okinawa if not to make our presence known when the PRC invades Japanese territorial waters. Only then will the PRC realize that its game of brinkmanship is up, that they have gone as far as they can go, that their false claims will not be honored.

I don't think China s ready or willing to engage the US 7th Fleet.

China is more than ready. Willing? That is yet to be seen. China is a pressure cooker at the brink of explosion. Due to their one child rule china had 40-60 million men that have zero chances of ever finding a woman. China has cities that the only reason they were built is to fulfill the sexual needs of these men. They do have enough women to even fulfill this need so they have developed robot sex dolls. 60 million men without real sexual release are willing to fight. That is a huge testosterone build up.

The real question is this:

Is the USA ready and willing to go to war with china for the sake of these uninhibited islands so that Japan can go fishing?

I say no

I think china thinks the same...

Then you have

Due to their one child rule china had 40-60 million men that have zero chances of ever finding a woman

Actually those two issues are very much related for there is growing concern of the so-called "spoiled to core little emperor" sons/grandsons where parents signed their previous only son to the military as a means of steady employment. There have been growing concerns that parents even go and watch their sons to make sure the commanding training officers don't train their precious ones too hard.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government confiscatd 750,000 so-called "inconvenient" MAPS since 2005 which did not state Senkaku was part of China. Can't find this news in the Western media.

The Chinese couldn't even take the northern part of Vietnam. The Vietnamese showed that when you fight back against the Chinese with enough force, the Chinese back down. The Senkaku islands aren't just about fishing rights. If the Chinese were to seize the Senkaku islands, they wouldn't hesitate to build an airfield on Uotsuri-jima just like they did on Woody Island. The next thing you know, you'll have fifth generation Chinese fighter aircraft menacing Okinawa and Taiwan from the Senkaku islands. The more forces you have guarding the Senkaku islands the less likely they are to fall into Chinese hands. This dovetails with current US naval doctrine.

"We want to put enough uncertainty in the minds of Chinese military planners that they would not want to take us on," said a senior Navy official overseeing the service's modernization efforts. "Air-Sea Battle is all about convincing the Chinese that we will win this competition."
