a) That's a very cool flag. Love the design.

b) Far be it for me to applaud the US for its sensitivity regarding wartime matters, but it's nice to see this particular example of a country recognizing its shared history with another country regarding a painful war memory. Such acknowledgements will surely help both countries understand the past and perhaps each other. It also eases some tension that may continue to exist between the countries. Japan, South Korea, and China ought to take note regarding their relationships with each other.

It would've been nicer still if they had returned the flag to its rightful owners here in Japan for permanent display at Yasukuni.

Is it standard practice for war victors to take what they want from fallen ships? And on a first come first serve basis? I call that looting akin to prirates, but I guess that's okay if nobody's watching, right?
