I hope and pray that everyone in the affected area is safe.

Still a bit jet lagged so was in bed when I felt this... shimmying about in bed is a strange sensation. Not totally unpleasant.

Joban line was an absolute joy this morning as a result...

Funny, I heard this earthquake rather than felt it. It was only a 2 here, but there was a loud crash, like someone in the next street banging giant cymbals together. At the station there were announcements about delays caused by 'the earthquake', and it was like, 'what earthquake'?
Commiserations to those who got shaken out of bed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 4.9 seems pretty small by Japanese standards. Would most people even mention it?
taj
wontond, in this case it caused a couple of people at my office to be a few minutes late to work, making it noteworthy. Otherwise, yes, pretty small.

My internet router fell over

I looked up from my desk for a second...then went back to work.

It was small, but directly under a populated area and the shindo level was rather high for a sort of weak quake.
It was pretty strong for a few seconds at my home, definitely worth a mention in the news.

wontond, 4.9 seems small, but as it was Shindo 4 on the Japanese scale where I live, it felt as if another big one was coming. I think I will talk about it at lunch with the girls as if we were talking about today's weather.

Stay safe, peeps!

Its depth, relatively shallow, certainly affected its shindo scaling. It is coming, so be ready. Know you exits. Have a plan. Be safe.

I dont understand this site, it's full of personal trolls, the earthquake was large enough to knock my router over and I get -6 thumbs down...
oikawa
gogogo, how's your internet router doing? Has it recovered yet? Does it have PTS?
LFRAgain
It was a pretty good jolt. It was sharp and sudden enough to alarm even the most blase Tokyoites, I suspect. And there was that weird rolling cymbal sound that preceded the shake. Odd experience all around, and on the heels of a 6.0 only a week ago.
gogogo
oikawa: haha I hope not :) but not the point but you know what I am getting at, was expressing it was large enough to know stuff over but the thumbs down crew steps in and thumbs down your entire account because they can. JT says don't care so much about the thumbs but thats just wrong because they basically your reputation. JT needs to remove it or make it clearer who is thumbing you down so it is not anonymous.

I was sleeping with open eyes during an early morning meeting. The tremor woke me up :(

Was driving my son to the station when we felt the car "dancing" instead of driving "correctly"...
Saiaku
Koganei-shi, here the quake was only a few seconds and not very strong at all.

I hate when buses and heavy trucks pass my house and make it FEEL like an earthquake but this time a bus or truck passed but then it was like, wait a minute after this bus or truck passed but my house was dancing or jumping around!! So best thing to do is to at least try to be PREPARED!
nath
I was still in bed, and it woke me up pretty good. I don't need an alarm clock these days.

Abe's time is coming soon. His next dance will be called " Volcanic Fire Works " in celebration of his success with destroying Japan's future.
