The quakes seem to last a bit longer these days.

It wasn't magnitude 4, that was the shindo level. As it says later it was M5.4 or 5.5 depending on the earthquake agency you read.

Looking at the map it seems the center was right below Disney Resort's Vulcano.

Earthquakes generate a primary and a secondary wave. The primary wave is up and down, and feels like going over a speed bump. The secondary wave is the side to side shaking. I felt the big primary on today's quake, and I said "this is gonna be a good one" before the shaking started.

I was wondering why they were reporting such a small quake. Thank you to the readers for clearing up the magnitude. I hope everyone is ok, as I am sure they are after a 5.4. I have noticed that as well, that as least psychologically, the quakes last longer these days.

That was a good one here in north Tokyo.

I am near Shinjuku, and it shook pretty hard while I was eating my dinner in the kitchen. It did last longer than the normal routine. Also I think these recent quakes are making up for lost time from the quiet spell we had these last few months.

It was certainly noticeable in Kichijoji. I'm glad it wasn't more serious, for everyone's sake.

It was stronger than other more recent ones.

gogo/badge213: So because you two felt nothing this is a non-story? And how is any fuss being made? It's a simple three-sentence article giving pretty much nothing but numbers. There is no speculation or opinion in it and the posts are pretty subdued. That's hardly what I'd call a fuss.

Shook me up pretty good. Was surprised by the length of it.

At first I thought, WOW that's some seriously good SFX and sound as I was watching a movie at a friends place when the quake hit and his neighbours always always know when he's watching a movie... hint, hint.
