The DPRK should launch this rocket! But not towards the sea, more live over China, Mongolia, Russia, that would make it more fun.

If we remove the interpretations placed around the quotes, then

Quote: The North said Saturday the rocket would blast off “southward” from its Sohae Space Center in the country’s northwest. “A safe flight path has been chosen so that parts of the carrier rocket that might fall during the launch process would not affect neighboring countries,” it said. It added Pyongyang would “fully comply” with relevant international rules for the launch... Pyongyang also repeated its claim made during its April launch that the rocket was aimed at promoting “the use of space for peaceful purposes” by placing a polar-orbiting earth observation satellite into orbit.

OK, this is a good first step. Nice, normal, reasonable language that works on the international stage. Not easy to build trust, but you have to keep trying. A trustworthy North Korea!?!?!? If that is possible, it has a very good ring to it.

Perhaps, IF you accept the premise that this indeed is a peaceful satellite launch, which is a premise that you can only accept IF you also believe that they have actually placed anything, let alone a civilian satellite, in orbit previously. As fas as I'm concerned, and from what I can tell the majority of the international community too, the DPRK have previously either had four utterly unsuccessful attempts to launch a satellite OR they have had four tests of varying levels of success of their ballistic missile technology and program. My money is on the latter and that this launch is attempt #5 of the same.

Of course they are not lauching a satellite. They may be crazy, but not stupid. If your launch success rate is practically zero, you wouldn't try to put something with a value of millions of dollars on top of a likely to fail rocket. At best they use a couple of bricks to simulate a payload.

Well, if they are going to put a couple of bricks in there, forzaducati, they might as well throw in another stereo tape player, with fresh batteries this time.

I would have thought a more appropriate date would have been November the 5th.

That's hilarious!! More like ALL of the parts of the rocket will fall. When they launch it, run indoors....not because of the rocket, but because of the peices.

"N Korea notifies Japan of rocket path..."

And the United States & Japan is hereby notifying North Korea of our Rocket Path (Named Patriot Intercept Missile) and its path will be right into the nose of North Korea's Rocket IF it comes anywhere near Japan, International Air Space or International Waters.

Yeah, well, NK has announced that they found a unicorn "lair" too. The government of NK is becoming a laughingstock. Except that there's nothing funny about nuclear missiles.

At least China and Russia told the doughboy to not go through with it. But it seems that NK is planning on the launch anyway. Always nice to have a rouge country with nukes in your backyard....

Lord....It seems North Korea can't ever be trusted as they simply don't know how to follow rules, I wonder what does the UN have to say about this.

question, how high up does a countries airspace extend?
