This is a tragic accident and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

The same thing happened when the JAL flight crashed they setup camp and the people that had survived the crash died from exposure. If those others were alive they aren't now. Couldn't they airlift someone in with the jaws of life?

This paragraph in the article is key to your question as it covers all nine people:

"Nagano prefectural police said three men pulled from the crash site were airlifted to nearby hospitals but pronounced dead, and two others found later were unconscious. Police said they believed the remaining four were still trapped underneath the debris from the helicopter." 3+2+4=9

Suspending rescue for the night raises a question. Do the rescuers know those under the helicopter are dead and don't want to fight the snow and dark to bring the dead out?

If anyone survived, as gogogo said, they've died of exposure by now.

I feel sorrow for the families and friends involved. These were people training to rescue people in trouble; noble and important to all of us.

It's a shame. These people could have lived healthy lives rescuing people who really need help. Instead they have to die training to rescue people who choose to go up a mountain without the proper awareness, or have the awareness but choose to take the risk anyway.

I live not that far away. There was a north wind blowing yesterday, and winds can be much stronger higher up. The "lost contact" part suggests some kind of failure happened though.

What a tragedy. Here's hoping the survivors can pull through.

I find it quite hard to believe that they were able to snap pictures of the wreckage so clearly but had to suspend operations for the night while believing four people are still trapped underneath. If it's due to weather it is highly unlikely the remaining people will survive and the tragedy will be compounded. Have they not heard of flashlights?

Access on the ground don't look that easy due to forestation.

Rescue Workers might have to hike in for a distance.

It's a really harrowing tragedy. Most unfortunately, however, if the regretful incident hadn't occurred they would have rescued many people. I offer prayers for the souls of the victims.

That's because they knew they were dead already and it was just a matter of recovering bodies, so there was no need to take any more risks.

Other news has officially announced all 9 aboard have died.

I expect rescue workers hiked from the closest Lodge, carrying overnight stuff(tents, etc) would limit their ability to carry rescue gear.

I know that because I served in Unit stationed in the Alps.

I guess the footage would be taken from a press helicopter, which is much smaller and nimbler (no need to carry many people or much weight, and much cheaper to buy and operate) than anything used in rescue. The footage was also taken in daylight, i.e., in different conditions to overnight when the poster is suggesting rescue operations were conducted.

Helicopters are used for rescue/emergency evacuations of injured people.

Rescue mostly happens on foot(less risk) to another safe area where helicopters can land safely.

I hope they rescue the rest of the people on board, but something tells me that no one has escaped unharmed. above are links to some pictures of the unfortunate crash.

The rescuers probably know the victims personally. They likely wouldn't suspend activities on their comrades if there was a chance of them being alive. They would know that there is no surviving in a space smaller than a living human body can fit.
