Sheesh.. as if Tohoku hasn't seen enough destruction and disasters already..

Aly: No kidding! Take care, peeps. The storm seems to have weakened, but the rain is still a massive problem.

"At the Fukushima nuclear power plant, decimated by the 2011 disaster, some outdoor decommissioning work was suspended as a precaution."

Here's hoping they don't use this as another chance to 'lose' a bunch of water into the ocean.

Don't worry - everything is completely under control at the triple-meltdown run by Yakuza shell companies with unlimited access to unaccountable tax money.

Pay no attention to this. Watch TV. There are noodles.

And just to clarify, for people who are flying or travelling, it is a hassle. For most other people, there is not a lot to be panicked about. If you look on a map, Iwate is waaaay up there, so here in Miyagi, there is not much more going on than rain and some winds. And not necessarily all at the same time. In fact, it was sunny for part of the day and everything dried out quite a bit. The rivers are all running full bore, of course. We got an evacuation notice, but ignored it because we are not close to the rivers.

I swear typhoons are like being in a washer dryer. First you get rinse water and a lot of suds. Then a lot of agitation. Then rinse. Then a blow dry and the heat comes back.

I am worried about the rice more than anything.

I feel sad to hear this, but Japanese are courageous and with positive thinking!

I'm watching on the news now, they are showing the area in front of a JR station in a small town in Iwate-ken, and it's flooded. I can't see how deep the water is (looks maybe 30cm or so), but there is water everywhere.

Yup! About a decade ago Akita lost most of its rice crop to an insanely heavy rain storm. Not something that needs repeating in Tohoku!
