U.S. deploys stealth fighters from Okinawa to S Korea

Hmm, seems to be the same thing NK is doing to SK and the US by saying it is targeting those countries with their atomic weapons. NK even has a threatening video of the White House blowing up or something and saying their missile corps is on maximum alert and targeting U.S. bases in Japan and Guam.

"Precision target assets" that's a laugh riot. The CEP on these missiles (if they work and assuming they are not shot down) is between 1km and 1 mile, far too inaccurate for use against a military target. These missiles are only to be used against population centers. Not that that is a comforting thought, but it just reveals the North's bluster to be just that.

On another note, can one imagine what a squadron of F-22s would do to those mig 21s (again assuming that they could get off the ground to begin with.)

NK may well be bluffing or, in any event, nowhere near as capable of mounting a serious assault as it would like us to believe (e.g. obsolescence of equipment, lack of spares, lack of fuel etc). Nevertheless the US keeps ratcheting up the opressure with this kind of announcement. i just hope they are better at reading L'il Kim and his coterie of cold warriors than they were at judging the threat in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There is also 1 in 3 chance that their rockets will not leave the platform due to crude production quality. Another 1 in 5 chance that their nuclear device will detonate prematurely during failed launch sequence. Not really comforting for the ones who needs to be near the launch pads also.

If the Chinese would step up to the plate here, and deploy their fighters, and tell the North Koreans that if they launch any attacks on South Korea or U.S. targets in Japan or elsewhere, they will bomb North Korean targets, the U.S. could go home and save a whole bunch of taxpayer money...

As soon as NK runs out of threats to make and decides to actually do something. Since they can't realistically attack US bases despite their claims, they will opt to kill more South Koreans as usual. But this time the US is committed to supporting SK in a retaliation. And I don't think the new SK President will be able to avoid the national demand for retaliation this time. What's rather scary is that I don't think Kim Jong Un has the experience or ability to pull off what's going on without a massive push from the military leaders behind him. Many of the DPRK PLA leaders were either not born or too young to personally remember the Korean War and grew up in the DPRK propaganda world. These "nutbags" may actually believe they are invincible.

The days of bombing an entire city with total disregard for civilian casualties has been over by decades. In truth our ability to conduct precision surgical strikes, ability to shut down their support systems and conventional warfare capabilities are such that the use of any nuclear weapons even tactical may be unnecessary to take out the DRPKPLA. But you are right to the extent that NK has no idea of the reality of nuclear weapons. Even China declared upon going nuclear back in 1961 that they would never use nukes in a "first strike". And here we have North Korea unilaterally yapping about conducting a nuclear "first strike".

This is a good step in the Right Direction.

May ALL those Commies in North Korea, China, and "Russia" Observe The United States "Stealth Hardware" Roaming their Commie Skies...

This is a great opportunity for China to see if she can detect the stealth fighter! Maybe even for the Russians too. The closer the F22 fly nearer to their borders, the more opportunities to detect the stealth plane and if successful it is possible they may even tip off the N Koreans!

Any possibility of a US-PRC behind the doors agreement in which PRC will agitate NK to make a limited attack on SK only to remove the present regime to a more moderate one following PRC's open door policy?

In seriousness, I get the feeling there is a major internal power struggle going on amongst the psychotic aristocrats ruling that joint. God knows who is in control or their next move. My only thoughts are with the millions of starving innocents, especially the kids. They will be the ones to suffer most, whatever the outcome.

SamuraiBlue, you've hit the strategy nail on the head. Provoke an attack by NK and strike back, hard and fast. China will sit still, except for arming its border with NK so heavily as to prevent a mass exodus. However, you'd have to seriously regret the casualties in SK and somehow make it up to them.

I guess I wasn't clear it's not the US or SK that makes the counter attack against NK, it's PRC silently removing the present regime after NK attacks to make it a more controllable puppet state. A military coup completely orchestrated by PRC.

Dont forget that in the past Korean war that China aided NK with ground troops and supplies. Thats the main reason the US couldnt win the last time. The last thing the US wants is for this to take off into a real war.

With China involved, it would be a war the US could not win.

I'm just hoping that NK gets an itchy trigger finger or some nutter on the Nork side fires the first shot... NK needs to end yesterday and Korea needs to exist again with SK influence of course.

We're witnessing a mild escalation that will hopefully not lead to an open conflict since China will object in the end and it's not in the interest of the US to have a war over there , i don't the NK leadership is that silly to go against China"s will

It's worrying to see all the countries in the region increasing their military expenditures though and the tensions still not looking to ease up

Does this leave Okinawa only with the deadly Osprey defense?
