The US is taking full advantage of the territorial disputes to further militarize the Pacific. Now that Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein have been killed off, Chavez has died and Castro has grown old, who will be the new and necessary face of evil? The boisterous rhetoric of talk-show pundits points to China's Xi Jinping. But since China owns a big chunk of US debt and feeds US consumers much of the stuff that soon overflows landfill sites, this new "evil" is also necessary.

There is no shortage of "evil" and China has been rearing its evil head for some time. It's unilateral actions and one sided business practices have been escalating for some time.

Best wishes to the newly deployed Poseidon crews.

Oh please. The deployment of the P-8 to Kadena was a full decade in the making and long overdue and has absolutely nothing to with recent events surrounding China's ADIZ proclamation. It's merely a coincidence that the two have occurred around the same time but the MSM will naturally dedicate half of the article to making sound like this is a direct response to Chinato excite people like you. It obviously worked...

Oh, oh! Better to set up zones of free expression inside mainland China. Let's work merrily together to overthrow the CCP. Happy holidays!

Communist Chinese leaders must rethink their International relationship strategy. China has made many enemies in Asia-Pacific region by declaring unrealistic its territory across the Asia-Pacific coastline and now latest provocation Air Defense Zone.

In reality, Communist China will never able to steal another country natural resource in its territory. The Communist Chinese leaders are naive to think other Governments in Asia-Pacific will accept quietly bully by Communist China. Most of countries in Asia-Pacific region are democratic country and they have closed relationship between democratically elected Governments. Communist China will be disadvantage in long run in region. Communist Chinese leaders must think about who is wrong and who is right by balancing on One Government vs. all Governments in whole Asia-Pacific region. Communist Chinese Government ignoring all universally accepted rule and law of International society is very dangerous and risky for innocent peoples’ lives. I believe Communist Chinese Government should be punishing by introducing sanction against Communist China instead of rewarding its bad behavior. Communist Chinese leaders are like bad rappers. The more they have money the more they will behave badly and bad for civilized society. The rich Communist China is bad for whole Asia-Pacific region.

The Philippines has submitted a formal complaint to the UN about China sending all sorts of ships and invading Philippines maritime zone. Taiwan is concerned but hasn't made an extreme enough complaint because their trying to improve the relationship between the CCP and the ROC by capitulating to the CCPs arrogant tactics. Vietnam also doesn't take kindly to China and South Koreas ADIZ is being overlapped by China's newly declared "ADIZ".

Obviously China isn't winning over any friends in the entire region.

That's six powerful telescopes aimimg directly at your neighbor's swiming pool. Now will your neighbor's hardworking wife--Chinese people--take it with good grace? Afraid not. She probably would demand her spoilt, macho husband do something about it.

Kobuta Chan@ I love the way you use the term Chinese Communist Leaders, its so Cold War, there are no Communist in China anymore, they are now in America. Can tell by the fines that the US regulaory authorities been pushing onto the banks.

I think if things are just and fair, we can turn it around and say China send surveillance planes to island close to America to support their south american allies, that will be accepted by America?

Tiger, the term communist is descriptive and not pejorative. There are no real communist countries anymore. All so called communist countries have long since turned into dictatorships or totalitarian governments rather than communist governments, which is a nearly impossible ideal to achieve.

Cuba is probably the closest any country got of an ideal communist country, and China is no Cuba.

Is there a democracy in China? No. China is controlled by a close group of politburo members and their cronies scattered throughout the government, the legal system, the military, etc. So, they are really a totalitarian government with a facade to simulate limited freedom within the bounds allowed by the totalitarian state.

America doesn't attack spy planes flying near their coast or islands as long as they stayed in international airspace and did not intend to fly to America, even though they are in the U.S. AIDZ. So, yea China, bring on your surveillance planes, like China isn't already monitoring the U.S. from within the country.

In contrast, China says it will take "defensive measures" against (aka threatening and potentially shooting down) any planes that fly in their space and don't obey their rules.

China isn't communist any more. It's more outright fascist now.

I think it's vital to clarify that the airspace in which the Chinese have stated that they will take "defensive measures" (military action) is undeniable international airspace which should be unrestricted to any aircraft of all nationalities. It is completely within China's rights to designate whatever ADIZ they want (not encroaching on anyone else's territory of course), but not at all within their rights to demand anything of foreign aircraft, particularly commercial flights, within that zone. China is treating their entire ADIZ as if it is their territorial airspace and THAT is what is most grievous about their latest move. No other country that I am aware of does this or should be allowed to.

@Tiger_In_The_Hermitage,

Newsflash, Russia has been doing this for years - in the Aleutians, over Guam, and off the west coast of the continental U.S. They send their "Bear" bombers over, and we send up some fighters to escort them back out of our area. No shots are fired and everybody goes home to their families on their two feet instead of in a body bag. It happens annually.

Ah good i see clear minds and good posts are predominating here, and in other threads. China is showing its true colours and is going to bring about a strong and powerful response from a united Pacific rim ..which nothing else could have done so well. It is clear now that good aircraft and resources are indeed needed and yes even though these planes were scheduled for deployment if the US WERE kow towing to China it would have stopped the mission but even under the rather poor leadership at the top of the US currently, we are getting a clear message from the US to Japan and the rest of the Pacific, we are NOT scared by China's moves and China is now the nation on notice that it better restrain itself......sooner than later.

Glad to see so many good posts and people who see the issues clearly.

The Senkakus are Japanese and will remain that way. China has enough territory in its own large country. These planes will help protect Japan and peace in the region.

Marx set out a clear path for nations to eventually end with a communist state. None has done that so far.

As far as the P-8A's coming over, the US can say anything they like. Until I see a link to information stating otherwise, I will say that these new jets are in response to "Communist" China.

The P8s mission is maritime surveillance and interdiction and finding, tracking, and killing subs. Obviously, the two largest non-allied Navies in the Pacific AOR belong to Russia and China so yes the Poseidon is in response to China but not just China and not specifically in response to what China has done in the past few weeks. You need to understand that the plans to replace the P-3 Orion has been in the works for over a decade and this inaugural deployment of the P-8 to Okinawa wasn't dreamed up last week as a response to China's ADIZ declaration. The transition of a squadron to a new aircraft and the subsequent post-transition deployment is a process that takes a long time to accomplish and is scheduled years in advance. Just think of all that is required in advance to bringing out the aircraft, aircrews, maintenance and support systems, etc. The P-8's mission is much broader than just thumbing our nose at China's ADIZ and the timing for this deployment is perfectly time but indeed incidental.
