Mobile digital microscope and camera

By Yoriko Takahashi

Sanwa Supply started selling a mobile digital microscope and camera (400-CAM010N), which is able to focus on an object with a maximum 500X zoom, for ¥11,800 at its online store, Sanwa Direct.

400-CAM010N looks like a normal compact digital camera at first sight, but it can take super detailed photos of fine details, such as that of material fibers, that a regular digital camera cannot do. Not just a tool for micro observation, for those who have poor eyesight, it can be used as a magnifier while they read small characters.

There are 4 LED lights around the lens so that you can observe the objects clearly in dark places. It has an effective 5M pixel CMOS sensor.

Images you shoot are saved on a microSD card. You can also transfer these images to your PC by connecting them with a USB cable.

You'd need a very steady hand to take close ups at 500X with a camera. Perhaps with a tripod this could be a great tool. I had my first microscope when I was about 10 years old. It was jut so great seeing the smaller parts of life. Still love photos of microscopic beings.
