Bolt is stunning. Great to see him beat Gatlin too.

Bolt - the greatest of all time. I absolutely had no doubts he would reel in Gatlin. Lets just hope someone gets in his ear and talks him out of retirement. Tokyo 2020 - and possibly the Olympic movement which is hanging by a thread - could be saved by this Jamaican superstar!

The two greatest athletes maybe ever--Bolt on land, Phelps in the water--we have had the joy of seeing them for 3-4 Olympics in a row now. Amazing!!!

Justin Gatlin should be banned for life for doping, there should be no way back for cheaters.

Yes, just as much a star as Phelps, in his own way. I've no doubt if he were in the same wide range of events swimming presents (different event for each stroke) he'd be up there with him in golds, too. In any case, excellent win. Definitely one of the greats.

Smithy - interesting point re the number of available events available to Bolt to win gold in.

I think Bolts dynamism certainly is suited to a few other disciplines such as long jump (a la Carl Lewis), triple jump and perhaps hurdles. Hell, maybe with training he'd push the envelope in the decathlon.

Possibly the greatest sprinter of all time, but the afore mentioned Lewis was no slouch.

but the afore mentioned Lewis was no slouch. Lewis tested positive three times to banned stimulants through out his career so really shouldn't be considered at all.

Bold is definitely not as humble as Phelps. Great accomplishment, though!

Am with browny re Carl Lewis, he was a more complete athlete than Bolt. The Jamaican is the fastest man of all times no question but Lewis was sub 10s over 100m, sub 20s over 200m and close to Beamon's 8.90m in the long jump (he would have won gold in rio).

Bolt is a flashy, sometimes arrogant and childish showman whereas Lewis had a strong presence/ aura. Carl Lewis at LA 1984 was pretty special, my first olympics and still remember being mesmerized by Lewis.

AMAZING is all I can say! I think it would be funny to have the opportunity to do a short spring against Bolt just once in my life. World class sprinter... hard to even be able to get that kind of title!

For Canada, that's our first men's medal. All our other medals are from the women's teams! Congrats to Andre de Grasse, the future is looking great too!

For 9.81 glorious seconds on Sunday, all the ills that have dogged athletics recently were forgotten

Bolt, who has upper body muscles like a body builder, rather jogs my memory. http://i.imgur.com/bI6L3jK.jpg
