OH MY GOD! I'd completely forgotten about this final today. China made it to the knock-out stages in a less than convincing manner, but went on to beat Brazil, then the Netherlands and now Serbia, the last two of which had just beaten China in the round-robin stage. A shame they weren't given a chance to crush USA too. Beating Brazil was already a feat in itself. Beating the Netherlands was very possible since their last match a few days ago was very very close. Never did I think Serbia could be beaten. China's had a terrible, terrible Olympics here, coming in a mere third in the medals table and only a measly 26 gold medals, but I'm sure this will be very sweet for the Chinese. 恭喜恭喜

China's coach, Jenny Lang Ping also made some history here too. The first ever player-and-then-coach to win a gold in the Olympics, adding to HER already decorated history.

Being 3rd isn't so 'terrible, terrible". Compared to many other countries, they're doing quite well.

This was a great game, I really enjoyed watching the Chinese girls play. Very deserving winners I thought.

Oh dear, judging from the thumbs down, I guess someone is mad that China got the gold. Tee hee hee.

If I remember correctly, even though she was coaching the USA team and they beat China, she still got a standing ovation from the local crowds in Beijing 2008. I read that she also moved around other countries and coached teams there too.

"A shame they weren't given a chance to crush USA too."

A shame they weren't given the chance to crush Japan too, ha ha

I gave you a thumbs-up, Pukey

Would someone please give me a link to a video of the China-Brazil quarterfinal match?

I didn't watch quarterfinal either, would love to serach the video, beating Brazil seems mission impossible based on the fact that Chinese team did not really bad on the round-robin!

I watched the final Sunday, it was great game indeed, we lost 1st set but the girls did not give up and they did quite well on defense which changed the situation of the game. And finally they made it!!! Congratulations to these young girls, they are a young team and they’ve got a great coach Lang Ping!

But what shocks me is most of these volleyball players get a salary just like a normal office lady which is incredible, and what they got after the match is not big meal but instant noodles(I know Lang Ping also eats a lot instant noodles), how come the Chinese football players have such high pay which make them can afford fancy cars, luxury watches, but you know what? They even don’t have a chance to play in the Olympics games!!! LOL
