Talk about a contrast to Merkel-Trump meeting.

Wow, what a contrast with stoney-faced, man-child Trumps visit. Never thought I see the day a Japanese leader looked more statesman-like than a US leader (then there was Bush of course).

Major difference, which will carry over into deals, discussions, etc.

    oh hey Shinzo, personal space!

Nice to see old allies renewing their friendship. As for deal and so on, problem is that the economic models of these 2 are too similar - not an awful lot of scope for reciprocal deals. Plus Germany is a member of EU so can't make independent deals anyway.

Merkel could learn a lot from Japan about what a sensible immigration policy is.

After the stuff he said about women (and you now what I mean), no female leader is going to let Trump do this kind of hug (OK, semi-hug)..

Look like they have good chemistry. At least, Merkel may feel so.

Well no question she could probably learn 'a bit' from him/japan but so could he. Germany has been a magnet for highly qualified and highly skilled young Europeans (particularly from Spain, Italy and south Europe in general, but not only) in recent years. No doubt Japan (who face similar demographic challenges) could learn a thing or 2 from that.
