Is this a campaign to keep posting photos of Japan's "self-defense" Forces to get us used to the idea of Japan having a military?

It's probably got more to do with what stills AP Photo has available at the moment.

I doubt it. Japan Today has often shown such photos for a long time now. I don't get the impression that the editors JT has a pro-militaristic stance. Also, I would think most readers already are quite aware that Japan has self-defense forces and they are also quite aware that they definitely fall under the definition of a military.
