Some people will probably say something about the decline of Federer. that he is a shadow of what he once was. That might be true, but this is still a great win for Nishikori.

Hooray, Kei Nishikori!

A very severe score indeed.

I'm impressed.

The new Ishikawa Ryo!

Say what you will about Federer's alleged decline, but he's still ranked in the Top 5 (and they are a league of their own) and that Kei Nishikori was able to beat him is an amazing feat. Well done to him and good luck in the future.

Reign? A third-round win is hardly that. Let the thumbs downs rain on me.

This has to be a confidence booster. This may be a case of "out of the frying pan, into the fire", but a good win nonetheless. Well done Mr. Nishikori.

Long have I believed Kei will be top 10. However, clay is also not favorite surface of Federer. I will be impressed if Kei can beat a top 4 player at Wimbledon.

Whatever, you will always find something to complain about, even if he beats all of them. After all, winning against Federer isn't as impressive as being grumpy on JapanToday, is it LOL

Well done! Beating the greatest of all time is no mean feat at any time.
Maybe - just maybe - this is the year this young Japanese kid can step up to shock the world and become the first Japanese to win a major. Let's just hope the J-Media don't put too much pressure on his young shoulders...

This is the greatest win in the history of Japanese tennis. Look back at tennis history and you will find nothing greater.

Oh man, that pun is just so cool! It's simply inspired!

bgaudy: "The new Ishikawa Ryo!"
Media-wise, perhaps, but Nishikori is proving to have far more talent and skill than the aforementioned, and is more deserved of the attention. I just hope the media doesn't blow it with him like it did with Ishikawa, Fukuhara, and other athletes.
This kid is definitely going places.

Ryo-kun became a star because he was dominant in Japan at a young age, setting a world record for lowest score in a sanctioned competition while in his teens. Also, he has a flair for fashion reminiscent of other photogenic young players like Rickie Fowler. He just hasn't translated his great success in Japan into international stardom. But I see no need to criticize someone like Ryo who committed to donate a year of tour earnings to Tohoku relief. At least he's not ranting in public about his taxes like Phil Mickelson.
CraigHicks
Well done!

I'm from the same hometown like Federer is. Federer is like a god for some people here, I don't like him. Well done, Kei...

Otsukaresama, Kei-san ! Well done ! You can always say that you beat arguably the greatest player of all time ! Hang in there, it gets tougher as you get deeper in the draw !

Good show, mate. If they let him play for himself and not Japan, he can join the top ten.
