Its just not the same... If Japan had more cheerleaders at their sporting events like for their baseball & soccer teams during part time shows then it would solidify the tradition of "cheerleading" instead of just imitating for imitations sake.

Cool thing about cheerleaders in the US is during highschool they are there to represent and encoourage their school field sports teams, not just random events.

I much prefer these cheerleader over the neo-nazi like cheer sections at pro baseball

Having cheerleaders is always fun at sporting events (or any other event for that matter). I think it is pretty cool that Japan is accepting of things from other countries. Just because they have cheerleaders and even American football teams in Japan doesn't mean they have given up on their own culture. That's like saying there shouldn't be Judo or Karate in Western countries and more Fencing or something.

Cheerleading gives young girls and women something athletic to do and is a social activity as well. Japanese high school girls probably join the cheerleading team because it's a lot of fun. I know that there is a Japanese woman that is a cheerleader for Washington in the NFL.

A little earlier I tried a little test to see what would happen, I did not insult the US I simply made a comparison which is the post that you read and have responded to, and as you can see it isn’t there any more. Had I said the same things about Japan, perhaps being seen as negative, that post would still be there, insulting anything Japanese it seems is acceptable. In truth I think most young people are a little silly simply because they are young, they will grow out of it, but so long as that silliness is harmless I really don’t care, as you say cheerleaders enjoy what they do and it does act as a form of exercise. As a man am I really going to complain about pretty girls in short skirts?

Good photo captured in peak of time. To me that gal is in prime shape, none of us could do the same, & yes the gals are cute at that age I will agree.

Oh. A crotch. I guess I didn't notice. Why do people zero in on that stuff? I don't really think of cheerleaders sexually because they are all so, well, knock-kneed, but I am sure that sex is all they are to some people. Some great acrobatics and a whole lot of adrenalin and serotonin and all people can see is sex.

Anyway, looks like a lot of fun. If I weren't an old guy, I would spend a lot of time watching cheerleaders. If I tried to look less creepy, I would only look more creepy, so, well... I am out of luck.

It's kind of odd that their cheerleaders look like they're larger. Represent the average girls!

Overthere, at the event this would have happened MANY times during the routine. The girl in this photo isn't going to be obsessing about her crotch but instead critiquing how high she got and whether her feet reached equal distance and height.

IMHO, pro cheerleading isn't the best career choice, though maybe the pro cheerleaders in Japan get paid better. Pro Cheerleaders in the U.S. NFL get around $50 per game (x 16 games). They have to try and supplement that with appearance fees and poster sales.

Actually you only bhave to be moderately flexible to do that, but you do have to be quite strong. That is why these girls don't have model figures- you need muscles to do jumps like that. If they didn't have those legs they wouldn't be cheerleaders.

Well, it is nice that the cheerleader is thinking of feet position and height achieved but I know that is not the first thing I thought of or zeroed in on. I agree with "sillygirl". And Apsara.

She looks great...nice muscle tone in her legs! In Japan, at many schools, they have cheerleading squads that don't actually cheer at games for sports teams. Instead, the squad is considered another sports team of the school. The girls practice hard every day just like all the other sports clubs and do their thing at competitions. Don't see a thing wrong with gals keeping fit, having fun and working hard at what they do.

P.S. She is a kid executing an athletic manoeuver. Get your heads out of the gutter and quit staring at her crotch!! ;P

Maybe high school kids would actually learn something in English class if there were some cute cheerleaders involved instead of fat middle aged guys like me.

oh my goodness, what a cloistered background you must come from. you shouldn't ever watch the olympic gymnastics/diving/swimming competitions, go to aerobics classes, go to the beach or a public swimming pool, dance/yoga classes etc.

Actually, her straddle jump while achieveing a nice height, isn't perfect. Granted, I can't really do them that well anymore (gettin' old) for proper form, you are supposed to point your toes. I wonder if they are a power cheer team or the more widely know cheerleaders that you would expect to see at sporting events. Power cheering is different with stunts, dance, cheers and acrobatics. When I was in high school, we were another sports team and had 3-4 practices a week plus weight and flexibility training. No sissy stuff here!! Great to see some cheering in Japan!!
