Participants with water guns dance to music as they are splashed with water during the first "Waterwars" at Toyosu Amusement Expo in Tokyo, Saturday. Several hundreds of people gathered for the two-day summer event inspired by the famous water festival in Thailand as the temperature soared to 31 degrees Celsius in the Japanese capital.

I lived and worked in Thailand for 3 years in late 80 but there was no water throwing festival in Thailand except Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. If you want to enjoy Water Festival and then you should go to Burma in mid-April because the whole country celebrate Water Festival (Thingyan) for 4 days even in small village. It was New Year celebration for Burmese peoples and they call it Thingyan. I have been to Burma New Year Water Festival (Thingyan) 70s and 80s and there's no place like Burma. According to local, the Thingyan New Year celebration was thousand years old Burmese Buddhist traditional since Bagan era and they have never missed celebration for Thingyan water festival even under British Colony rule. It was amazing experience in my life and I’ll go to Burma New Year water festival if I have chance.
