Wow I didn't know she was coming to Japan. That's very nice. Does anyone know if the trip is short time or long time?
Virtuoso
They're both fluent English speakers, so why use an interpreter?

I beg to differ about the Thai prime minister. In fact I think she looks outstanding! She is dressed stylishly with a Thai flare. Her clothes are made of Thai silk, very beautiful colors and material indeed and the fit very well. The outfit looks formal but at the same time it is not boring because of the colors. If only Japanese ladies can throw away the dull and dark colors and baggy clothes and dress like her!!!!

That looks like a very limp handshake from the Crown Prince. I hope he doesn't always shake hands like that.

Wondered why all the Thai flags were being flown from the lamp posts near the Diet building today. The PM looks great!
Nessie
The limp-fish handshake, or as they say in Thailand "hand-pla."

I think he is fascinated by her :)

She looks so intelligent, no wonder she is PM of Thailand.

She's more popular than her brother Thaksin, despite some discontent with her management of the flood disaster; and her cabinet is admired for it's economic competency. She has an MA in public administration from the US, and has run her own companies in Thailand. However, some allege, she is acting too much on behalf of her exiled brother. Anyway, she's a lot more qualified than most of the diet members here...

Is he short? Or, is she tall?
Regardless, she's beuatifully awesome! Very elegant and intellegent, indeed!
hatsoff
Sure, times have changed, but this is a formal situation. There's an old English sartorial saying: "Never wear brown in town." Fail.

Naruhito is really short. What a shame. 5 foot 1? Not that theres anything wrong with short people...
smithinjapan
Wow... not only did she have to bend down for ceremony but to shake his hand. Fortunately it was a gawd-awful meeting on all parts in terms of style, and could break the tension.

Someone needs to by the interpreter a pair of shoes! Would not let my guy leave the house looking like that!

The Crown Prince needed the old Alan Ladd Hollywood close-up treatment (standing on a stool as about the only leading-lady working in those days that wasn't taller than him was Judy Garland).
And seconding many posters, who is that translator's boss? Fire him and then fire the translator for attending to state business in a blue suit with brown clown shoes.
And yes, the Thai PM is gorgeous and normally looks like a million bucks in traditional garb, but her shoes are all wrong as well, regardless of what else she may happen to be wearing. Reminds be of the flesh-tone skate covers worn by women figure skaters, and even those look like crap.
cactusJack
Not crazy about her shoes.

The Crown Prince looks very pleased to meet the very attractive Prime Minister Yingluck OK?
