you have it the wrong way around - he is shaking her hand as she is the Queen. The Queen doesnt shake hands with anyone - they shake hands with her

Tsuruoka was chief negotiator for TPP and other international issues. Parachuted in for Brexit?

The largest debt of unpaid parking tickets in the UK meets the largest owner of unpaid property tax in the UK.

Surely they are both shaking each other's hands, that being the definition of 'shaking hands'. Though, looking at the photo, he seems to be only offering his fingers in that not-quite-getting-it way Japanese men sometimes shake hands, not being familiar with the custom. Cool outfit though!

Representative of the biggest royal parasites in history meets representative of the biggest tax funded parasites in history.

Nice to see an official representative of Japan dressed in traditional garb instead of a monkey suit, mind.

Probably prefers them to the rude Chinese crowd.

What was he supposed to do? Contest grips with the Queen?

Fair point turbosat, could be royal etiquette. Looks awful though. ;)

He should have just bowed. a 90 degree one.

Having firmly shaken the Queen's hand, the ambassador attempted to step way. Just as he withdrew, he felt Her Majesty's iron grip clutch his retreating fingers. With a gleeful smile she fixated on the ambassador's hand, gently caressing his forefinger with her thumb. She then said to him, 'oh my, what soft and youthful hands you have Ambassador...'. Upon hearing this, the ambassadors wife began to step forward.

Japanese people do not know how to wear kimono anymore. So shaking hand too. Don't ridicule them. Mrs wore kimono with hidarimaye. That is how men wear kimono. Women wear migimaye. How to bow differs. wakarimasen. Queen is dignitary. Not 90 degrees. 180 degrees.as he is not a dignitary.

toshiko, nobody bows 180 degrees. And Mrs wore her kimono right, migimae, migi comes first. Men and women wear the same way.
