Wipeout

Riders get into trouble at the start of the Moto2 race during the Catalunya Grand Prix in Montmelo, near Barcelona, on Sunday. The Moto2 event was marred by a mass pile-up on the first bend and won by Japan's Yuki Takahashi on a Tech 3, after race leader Andrea Iannone was forced to take a ride-through penalty for overtaking when the yellow flag was out.

I've hit the ground like that before....wasn't fun nor did it feel good. Hope those dudes are alright.

Looks like "ordered chaos" to me.

What is not mentioned is that Tomizawa Shoya (winner of the first round) is one of the 9 riders taken out in that mess. He was also second in the season points ranking up to that point but has now been pushed back to 4th.

Why the race wasn't red flagged and restarted (this was a first turn incident immediately following the start) is beyond me. Many of those guys on the ground there would have had a second chance (Tomizawa included, he did try to soldier on, with a damaged bike, only to crash again a few laps later).

A red flag restart gives them enough time to make repairs.

Isn't this a blatant waste of gasoline?

sarge: isn't your breathing a waste of air? Some people enjoy riding a motorcycle. Its called having fun. If everyone rode a motorcycle we would all be breathing much cleaner air sense they are much more fuel efficient than cars!

Sarge, no, I don't think so.

Having been a continual m/c rider since 1946 to this day tack in on '47 I was into most forms of competition till '89 when a home accident of a broken hip put a halt to my competiton days, but yes I have two good 1000dcc sportbikes I ride up in our mountains of the Cdn Rockies for latter is 95% of my riding each year.

Picture is awesome - however, some riders seem in real PAIN !

These days falling off in a race is pretty safe - the modern leathers and other protection are very good. Leave Sarge alone - although the oxygen thief accustation did make me chuckle - he asks a legitimate question about the wastefulness and environmental harm caused by motorsports. I note that there are moves affoot to lessen the carbon footprint of motorsports by mandating engineering changes. Would be much more efficient to hold these things at the same track every week i stead of flying teams and bikes and all that all over the world....

It's only a legitimate question if he asks the same question about the wastefulness caused by everything else in the world, in particular about things he is himself keen on.

ah yes, the environment...let's all work an extra 2 hours a day and then only do a 4 day week so as we can all cut back on waste caused by commuting; let's only visit our parents every other week; all those people driving cars, trade them in for motorbikes; all those people riding motorbikes, trade them in for bicylces. and those people wasting hotdogs go straight to jail - a shared cell, of course.

Great photo - I love this kind of excitement in motor racing! It is what the fans want!

It looks as though it could be young Skywalker dashing for safety there... ...has he lost his hand?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is. Which is one reason why so many companies are backing out of sponsorship with this and with the car racing. That and it cost a whole crap load of money to support a team.
