I'm sure there were a lot of injuries to face in this pileup.
It will get worse, though: someone will undoubtedly have their ass chewed off Monday morning.

You should never tail-gate police cars, ambulances or taxis. They are giving young people on bikes tickets, and these people do not even get a slap on the wrist.
sourpuss
badsey, how do you know that nobody will even get a slap on the wrist?

It's lucky the driver was ok.
Yubaru
Maybe the driver who stopped knew that his car's ETC wasn't charged and went through the wrong toll gate!
wtfjapan
somebody screwed up, kiss that future promotion goodbye.
Serrano
Glad no one was seriously hurt.
trinklets2
The drivers' fault perhaps. Drivers shld be more than careful with VIP passengers around esp so because he's the PM of the land.
GW
First of all glad no serious injuries.
Now for who gets tickets, fines, & loses points, this one sounds easy, ANYONE who rear ends another vehichle is driving TOO CLOSE, so all the drivers who rear ended another vehicle get TICKETS!!!
AustPaul
The guards may have been in the back and may not have been wearing seatbelts... Agree with GW, even though they are the PM's own detail the driver behind should maintain a safe distance... What's a saloon??? Thought it was a bar from the wild west...
Realistic
zichi, me too curious about that...

Maybe they were all using their smart phones. Anyway, glad no one was seriously injured.

I saw the images on TV and did not seem a common accident. Very strange.
nandakandamanda
Thousands of these accidents have occurred all over Japan in recent years. Absolutely normal.
You get to the barrier no worries and the gate doesn't go up. You slam on the breaks as you realize you have stupidly forgotten to fit the ETC card and ignored the friendly voiced warning.
Someone runs into the back of you.
Michael Craig
I feel sorry for the officers and Abe's driver!
CrazyJoe
The accident was caused by the ETC gate or bars failing to open.(rise).
Vernie Jefferies
Looks like he got caught up in the GW traffic.
FPSRussia
Heavy traffic or poor ETC sensors? Either way, as Prime Minister of Japan he could work harder to resolve both situations.

One nice thing about Oklahoma, the Pike Pass or ETC does not involve a gate at all. Traffic that does not have it goes through the booths on the side, while people with the pass go by it at 120 km. The passes are easy to get and keep "charged". It has no batteries and it is stuck on the windscreen. Japan should look at the American system and perhaps adopt it. It would get more people to buy the passes and really speed up traffic with less accidents.

Oklahoma has their own independent system. ==> Most of the USA (that has tolls) is on E-Zpass

10 Million+ people signed that petition. It would be kind of an insult if he didn't accept it.

Following too closely and not paying attention while driving the Prime Minister? Guess he'll be reassigned to one of the disputed islands near Russia

Tailgating, no doubt, as is the culture here. Driver probably had a poodle on his lap and was watching a movie while playing with his Android.. guffaw. He'll be weeding the carpark with a teaspoon till we get a new PM. Shouldn't be too long then.

" The police car made a sudden stop at the toll gate, which led to Abe’s vehicle bumping into it from behind.
Two other police cars and a saloon carrying reporters, which were trailing Abe’s limousine, were also involved in the collision, said the official."
Classic tailgating. Clowns.
