At least Abe suffers from the same psychological defect syndrome.

Shinzo Abe vs. Kim Jung Eun

Look who's talking. I think the North Korean leader is worse than the Japanese leader.

Give me thumbs up if you think Shinzo Abe is a little better than Kim Jung Eun.

20 ( +31 / -9 )

Not that North Korea has any right to point fingers when it comes to fascism, but the comments made in the article aren't far off.

-16 ( +21 / -37 )

Heh heh, that's beautiful, coming from North Korea.

Not even Japanese wartime leaders came close to Hitler. Mao Zedong is the closest Asia has.

21 ( +31 / -10 )

Thank you Mr Lenin, now we know you can only read Chineses news papers.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

If Abe was an Asian Hitler, the Korean Peninsula would have been under the control of Japan a long ago.

11 ( +21 / -9 )

Yes, and the irony is not lost in that translation at all.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Wow, this coming from a nation that holds hate for freedom and the need to keep their people in complete darkness of the truth.

But, what can expect from a Communist regime that is a tributary state of another Communist regime?

The usual angry we hate Japan society members comment their hatred for democracy. Too bad that they just don't move to Korea or Communist China.

But, let's be honest, as much as they hate Japan they would rather live here than in the hell that is Korea or Communist China.

12 ( +20 / -7 )

Reductio ad Hitlerum. Google it. Doesn't matter what side your on. North Korea just lost the argument.

1 ( +6 / -4 )

CrazyJoe: "If Abe was an Asian Hitler, the Korean Peninsula would have been under the control of Japan a long ago."

You think what Hitler eventually became happened over night? The point of the article is that Abe is heading Japan in that direction, and he is.

Moderator: Please refrain from posting inflammatory rubbish like this.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Bwahahaha, thats rich! Good one North Korean I need another laugh today.

13 ( +16 / -3 )

I think they got the idea from the poster portraying Abe as Chaplin mocking Hitler.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@smithinjapan

You're right. I should have read the whole article. My comment was based on the heading.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Yes, let's be honest here JoeBigs. You purposely left out the "North", when you said "hell that is Korea or China".

But, let's be honest, as much as they hate Japan they would rather live here than in the hell that is Korea or Communist China.

So this is a big news in Japan? Taking what North Korea says about its enemies, seriously? I swear to god, I think Japan is in a frenzy mood to use the media to find fault with outside countries to rally the masses under one Shinto god.

-14 ( +7 / -21 )

“There is no difference between the fascist maniac Hitler, who waged battle against communists to justify another war, and the reckless Abe who is using confrontation with North Korea to justify Japan’s new militarist ambitions,”

Let's see how quickly we can dash this one, from 1939 to 1941 Hitler and Stalin were best of friends from 1939 until 1941.

The agreed to divvy Poland and which they did. After that both parties ensured their control over Poland was absolute by exchanging information and coordinating anti partisan activities.

Hell they were so friendly that the Gestapo and the NKVD had meeting from 1939 until 41.

Did I forget to mention that Russia was the Soviet Union back then? Oh and by the way, they were Communist.

But as with all great friendships that are between Authoritarian/Totalitarian dictators all things must come to an end. So the Germans invaded the Soviet Union in June 1941.

But, unknown to many either because they don't care or love to live in a fantasy world the Soviet Union had planned to invade Germany around July of that same year. But were beaten to the punch, so if Germany had not of attacked it would have been the Soviet Union invading the West rather than Germany.

As I have always say, Totalitarian/Authoritarian dictatorships will always eat each other in the end.

If Karl Marx only knew the horrors his fantasy utopian society would bring the world I am sure he would have burnt his writing instead showing it to the world.

10 ( +16 / -6 )

the pot calling the kettle black :P

3 ( +7 / -4 )

@JoeBigs: You forgot to mention that the same Stalin who was in leauge with Hitler for a short time was also the supporter of Un's grandfather. So if anyone is more aligned with Hitler it would be NK and Un, since the entire regime is based on a model implented by his grandfather and the influence from Stalin and the Communists who were as you mentioned at one time allies with Hitler. But so was Japan too.

I think NK and Un need to focus more on what's going on at home and not worry about Japan.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Coming from the country who's leader kills his own uncle, threatens to nuke the US and other allies and the never ending list of stuff that is wrong with NK.... So NK how about you sit back down and stop copying your Chinese masters with these ridiculous statements. mmm'kay?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

We call North Korea Big Nagging Baby!

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Comparative History -101. I fear DPRK's library are quite thin. He is certainly is an embarassement to his citizens.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

To repeat comedian Lewis Black: "Hitler had charisma."

2 ( +3 / -1 )

If NK want to irritates Abe, it should learn from SK snd China, just name calling does not irritate Abe. He is accustomed to be bashed.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Well, facts (and I trust the general media output by less than a third) are usually telling the truth and not propaganda, so in order to become 'Hitler', one must spend more money on military built-up and Japan is nowhere to be found in this related article: http://www.japantoday.com/category/world/view/asia-fuels-rise-in-global-defense-spending

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Government’s are efficient convincing citizens to support them. Of course, this is really nothing new: Machiavelli suggested 700 years ago that it is possible to unify the people by creating tension among them. Government thrives by making citizens afraid of things: other governments, planetary weather phenomena, ghoulish beasties, and things that go “bump” in the night. This does not surprise me. What does surprise me is that the citizens keep letting them get away with it —I mean, after 700 years ….

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If the realitiy wasn't so scary, North Korea's comments all collected together would make a great joke book.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

chucky3176Feb. 05, 2014 - 08:26AM JST Yes, let's be honest here JoeBigs. You purposely left out the "North", when you said "hell that is Korea or China".

What difference is there between ROK and DPRK these days?

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Don't you hate it when a madman says something that's right for a change?!

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Kim is like a pimple on politicians head but Abe is well known and respected leader of highly industrialize Asian country so what North is saying about Abe doesn't make any sense.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Pot called Kettle black. It is sad to say that NK is partly right because Abe grandpa committed some atrocities during WWII. Abe is a die hard fan of his grandpa and his grandpa idol was a Hitler. Abe used to fiercely defended about imperial army atrocities. Kim Jung Eun idol is a Mao.

Both Hitler and Mao were evils and murderers. There is no accurate statics about who killed more. At the end, both Abe and Kim are unfit for their duties because both are losse canons making the troubles. Both of them have no polite and impressive manner as head of states.

If both of them retire or lose their jobs respectively, that world will be more peaceful.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

If that's the case, why put up the thread?

Surely you're beginning to see the editorial policy here at JT smith? This "article" is in no way news worthy, yet I expect to see it sit at the top of the page all day.

What difference is there between ROK and DPRK these days?

Very little it would appear.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Junior Kim you made it right for first time !!

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Hmm, on one hand we have a dictator who maintains a military of over a million men, builds nuclear weapons, and regularly threatens other countries with war, all this despite his country regularly enduring famines that kill millions.

On the other hand, there's the democratically elected PM who is pushing to actually create a standing army for the first time in 70 years.

I'm no fan of Abe - by far - but which one of those national leaders is a “militarist maniac”, exactly?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Stalin who was in leauge with Hitler

What alternative history are you reading? WW2 by S Abe? try this Japan which was in leauge with Hitler

What difference is there between ROK and DPRK these days?

I and many Asians are die hard fans of ROK dramas, smart phones and Gangnam style. We are not a fans of DPRK propaganda, lawless police state and censored media.

ROK is modernized. DPRK is still living in cold war era.

ROK presidential term is only one term with election. DPRK head of state is life long career.

ROK has maintained their ancient custom, culture and art. DPRK does not!

ROK has no interest in Abe. DPRK has curiousity about every single move of Abe.

ssenipahFeb. 05, 2014 - 10:01AM JST Stalin who was in leauge with Hitler What alternative history are you reading? WW2 by S Abe? try this Japan which was in leauge with Hitler

So you never heard of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact of 1939?

That treaty helped the Soviet Union invade Poland in 1939.

If Germany didn't invade the Soviet Union the Soviet Union would of invaded Germany. Totalitarian/Authoritarian Dictatorships can't live anywhere near each other without one being the leader and the other being the tributary.

If Imperial Japan and Nazis Germany were anywhere near each other they would have been at war.

Now, here is something interesting you didn't mention, the Soviet–Japanese Neutrality Pact of 1941. Tell me a tale, why did the Soviet Union and Fascist Japan have this treaty?

So North Korea's argument is just a joke.

At the heart of the joke are two reasons, one Korea is trying to make friends with it's Southern new buddy and it's trying to keep on Communist China's talking points memo.

Communist China's triumvirate is beginning to form and the lines are being drawn out. The South Korean government is so desperate for unification that they are willing to forget the past and replace it with tyranny.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I guess we can thank the North Koreans for one thing. For now on, when you hear someone claiming Abe is ramping up Japan for war, you can just point out that they agree with the North Korean position.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I don't North Korea should talk considering they actually have death camps

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Apparently NK can say it but we can't.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

What do you mean "denounced". Is this article implicating that Abe is currently any better than Hitler?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

North Korea on Tuesday denounced Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as an “Asian Hitler”

Huh, that's rich coming from a country whose leader had his own uncle executed. Not even Hitler was so cruel to his family, though I have heard that he gave his other testicle to his mother. Strange gift. But if Abe is Hitler, then Kim Jong-Un is Chairman Mao, and the Chinese government is Lucifer. I don't see Abe having his family executed. Neither North Korea nor China have a leg to stand on when it comes to insinuating that other countries are evil, based on their horrific track records.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

That treaty helped the Soviet Union invade Poland in 1939

You mean a few weeks after the Germans invaded? Yes it was a non aggression pact.

Tell me a tale, why did the Soviet Union and Fascist Japan have this treaty?

They were fighting battles on other fronts and couldn't afford to have to fight on there opposite borders. I never said Japan was fascist.

Tell me were the Japanese and Germans allies in WW2? No tales just the basic truth might help.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

So a dynastic dictatorship is lecturing an electoral democracy on Hitler? Do they have mirrors in North Korea?

What's next? Starving and beating political discourse from a hermit society of frightened starving people is the best policy for a madman with nuclear weapons? One assumes this is what the "editorial" perspective intended to convey as 'wisdom'.

Well played. "The attack in an editorial carried by the North’s official KCNA news agency"?

Now that's a mouth full of contradictions presented as a credible analysis based on a fact free "opinion". Very North Korean.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

And WHAT shall we call North Korea / 's "Ruler ", the person that MURDERS his own uncle ?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

regardless of what we all think about NK, this is the first comment in a long time which is pretty accurate.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

“There is no difference between the fascist maniac Hitler, who waged battle against communists to justify another war, and the reckless Abe who is using confrontation with North Korea to justify Japan’s new militarist ambitions,”

Wait a second, has Japan threatened North Korea with war?

Has Japan threatened to fire missiles over Korea?

Has Japan fired missile near North Korea?

Has Japan kidnapped North Korean citizens?

Has Japan declared that North Korea will become a battlefield?

To all these questions the answer is NO!

North Korea and their anti-Japan backers are the ones acting like Nazis'.

North Korea is the 2nd worst criminal state in the world for the atrocities they have committed since becoming a nation.

cwhiteFeb. 05, 2014 - 11:40AM JST regardless of what we all think about NK, this is the first comment in a long time which is pretty accurate.

How, please do tell?

ssenipahFeb. 05, 2014 - 11:25AM JST That treaty helped the Soviet Union invade Poland in 1939 You mean a few weeks after the Germans invaded? Yes it was a non aggression pact.

But, you try and evade the obvious, Russia attacked Poland as per the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact. The pact laid out how they would divide up Romania, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.

So what exactly is your point? Oh wait I know, the Soviet Union (aka North Korea's former benefactor) was just misunderstood?

ssenipahFeb. 05, 2014 - 11:25AM JST Tell me a tale, why did the Soviet Union and Fascist Japan have this treaty? They were fighting battles on other fronts and couldn't afford to have to fight on there opposite borders. I never said Japan was fascist.

Wow, talk about denial...

The treaty between the Soviet Union and Japan was signed in Moscow on April 13, 1941, while the Soviet Union and Germany were still kissing and not after Operation Barbarossa. Operation Barbarossa began in June of 1941.

So you are wrong and the Soviets were firmly siding with Germany and their axis for the coming war.

Look it up.

ssenipahFeb. 05, 2014 - 11:25AM JST Tell me were the Japanese and Germans allies in WW2? No tales just the basic truth might help.

Wow, talk about further denial. Now, this is silly. At least with my argument I had a point.

3 ( +10 / -8 )

The pot calling the kettle black! Sadly, none of Japan's Asian neighbors trust them anymore, which is for pretty good reason, I suppose.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

North Korea behind it's closed fence has some strange illusions about the rest of the world. But I'm sure China and SK are welcoming this ridiculous remark.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

North Korea behind it's closed fence has some strange illusions about the rest of the world

People forget that Japan was once in pretty much the same position as North Korea - isolation wise. Between 1639 to 1853 (when it was forcibly re-opened by the US) Japan shut itself off from the outside world, with the exception of some trade with Holland and China via Nagasaki. Any Japanese who tried to leave were killed, any Japanese who were abroad before 1639 werent permitted to return. Any foreigners who entered illegally were also killed. In a way this long period of isolation, in some ways similar to North Korea now, explains the "us" and "them" mentality so prevalent among many Japanese. (ie) You cant understand our culture or thinking because you aren`t Japanese. This thinking has manifested itself in Abe, and why he deserves the title of "Asian Hitler"

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Japan is going down a dangerous road to pursue a militarist policy.

A good way not to be an American puppet.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Hmm and what does that make Kim Jong Un??

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I admire you JoeBigs. You truly are a patient man. Its obvious some posters here are not discussing in good faith, or they are simply too young to have any idea of who, and what, Hitler was. Its a laughable comparison made (and supported) by people with a very very tenuous grasp on reality.

1 ( +2 / -2 )

or they are simply too young to have any idea of who, and what, Hitler was.

Born on April 20th, 1889 in Austria. (Not Germany) Served in World War 1, where he became a corporal and was decorated for bravery. Felt disillusioned by Germanys defeat and the unjust Versailles treaty, blamed it on the Jews and the communists. Shall I go on?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

If my humble memory served me right, AKB48 have called Hitler as Uncle Hitler in one of their songs. Kim has already ripped off his Unwanted Uncle.

There is something inside Kim Junior mind is the replacement of his new Uncle. After all Abe is old enough to be Uncle of Kim. Kim May wish to call Abe as Uncle Hitler Junior. Unlikely Abe will take as offence because his grandpa served in Imperial army which was the ally of Hitler Arm Force.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

It takes one to know one.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

A man who killed his own uncle to consolidate his power position calling Shinzo Abe Hitler? That's a little too outrageous. There may be an element of right wing nationalistic ego in his policy, but who actually is not? I rather prefer to have a strong Japanese military capabilities so that American bases are substituted. The golden era of Asian Peace will Reign in. Suspicion towards Japan will also be reduced. Japan will decide its policy without interjection. If Japan is to survive as a free and respectable nation of the world, trade policy of a foreign country should never determine Japanese Foreign Policy, rather National Policy of Japan should determine Japan's Foreign policy with others. If Japan follows this principles, nobody can shake them, come what may. At present it appears to be the opposite.

I am surprised how many are willing to side with a Warmongering/mass murdering Communist tyrant just because it feels right.

Kim and his misguided regime is using this silly stance to rally the folks who already hate Japan just because they have nothing better to do.

Kim is one of the worst dictators to come about since Mao and folks are praising him as if he were Gandhi.

What's next, voting Kim the next man of the year or maybe trying to see if you folks can put him up for a Nobel Peace prize??

But, really what can anyone expect from Communist and the brainwashed?

Fantastic work, now we know you can copy and paste, but the real question is not who Hitler was, the real question should be how and who helped to formulate his ideas?

If you can answer that without copying and pasting then you may have learned something. BTW, to give you a hint he didn't formulate his ideas when he wrote Mein Kampf. That came a long time before, look into the days when he was serving in the secret police.

Love the way you characterized the treaty of Versailies as and I quote,"the unjust Versailles treaty" just the same way most Communist feel about the Treaty of Shimonoseki.

You seem to forget that Germany lost the war and had to pay it's debt to the victors. Just like the Qing Dynasty when it lost the war they started.

Remember, to the victor go the spoils.

That is why Senkaku belongs to Japan and not Communist China.

-2 ( +2 / -5 )

If Abe was an Asian Hitler, the Korean Peninsula would have been under the control of Japan a long ago.

That is like saying that if Hitler were Hitler, he would have invaded Poland in 1935 instead of 1939. Hitler only began serving as chancellor from late 1932 you see. This is Abe's second year as PM, including his previous stint as PM. I would suggest giving the man time to prove his desire for war, only, I don't war. I want Abe out as soon as possible.

I am a little bewildered that so many have rushed to Abe's defense just because of an editorial in a North Korean propaganda rag. But of course, some people only read headlines. And then what happens is that they see the name "Hitler", think what Hitler means to them personally, then strawman the topic to death by putting words in others' mouths and propaganda rags.

Their comparison to Hitler was limited to using confrontation to further militarism. And look what we have. We have increased arms spending, a new government secrecy law, stated desires to change article 9 of the constitution, and repeated denials that Japan did anything wrong during WWII complete with in-your-face Yasukuni visits.

It might be a little early to call Abe a Hitler, but it was also too early to call Hitler a Hitler in 1935. There were and are grave suspicions. But I tell you, I have seen plenty of the front side of Abe to desire to quickly see the back of him.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Okay now we have a real problem.

If Abe is Hitler, what does that make Kim???

Super Dooper Hitler? Mega HItler? The mother of all Hitlers?

You end up running out of things to call people.

If he thinks Abe is Hitler, I wonder who Kim thinks he himself is?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Abe is a Japanese originated from Yamaguchi-ken. So, calling him Hitler means NK does not know history. Yosuke Matsuoka from Yamaguchi-ken promoted Sangou Doumei in Japan, not Hitler., not Tojo. Not Mussolini (sic).

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Abe is a Japanese originated from Yamaguchi-ken.

He did his prefecture a great disservice by becoming prime minister...........twice. Japan is truly a glutton for punishment

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

@aussie: Check Wikipedia info about history of PM of Japan since Meiji Constitution was established, He is not only one who became PM for twice. The prefecture is different than other prefectures. Many people from there became top in many areas.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Who cares what that fat little murderous tyrant in Pyongyang call anyone?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I wonder if they were looking in a mirror when the stated that?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Right now, Yamaguchi ken people must be enjoying Hiksru Utada records. Her father is from that ken, My guess is Saba-gun that includes Hofu City. Not Abe;s area.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

While coming from NK, it sounds suspect. I actually think the article's point is still valid. There has been an unnecessarily high level of aggressive behavior occurring over the past few years i.e. Secrecy Act, Island Disputes, Constitution revision push, etc make the point arguably correct.

A crazy country says you're going a bit crazy...They speak from experience.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

He is not only one who became PM for twice

That was not my point. Abe did enough damage to Japan`s reputation the first time - before his bowel condition forced him out of office. Re-electing him was a grave error on the part of Japan
