Must be nice to have so much $$$ and to get away from the cold crappy weather of Washington DC and to be there in sunny Hawaii away from the homeless and angry young people out of work.

Obama needs to fix his domestic situation first.

It's a mess.

"We are not at all optimistic about being admitted to the talks," Japanese Trade Minister Yukio Edano, who will lead Japan's TPP negotiations, said at a Saturday news conference. "The difficult part is going to start from now. We need to negotiate patiently."

No You Need to Either abide by ALL the SAME RULES AS Every Other country Agreed to or YOU'RE OUT... You CANNOT have it both ways... Time to grow up...

The head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Thomas J. Donohue, told reporters in Hawaii that "while I support Japan joining…it is with a very large qualifier, and that is that they join under the same terms that the other players have already negotiated and agreed to play under. That would not be easy for Japan."

YES, THANK YOU, IT'S COMMON SENSE!

Funny to see Japan hesitant to roll the dice on this TPP deal. For some reason the whole TPP deal sounds like that old board game called RISK (Which I always win). If you want to watch as the U.S takes all of Asia go ahead. I always attacked Japan last.

Obama is very nice to Noda I think. Come get a piece of this pie. Gimme your plate and I'll put half of Asia on it.

It would be in Japan's best interest to get involved in the TPP to position herself well. There will be bargaining back and forth but not being involved just means Japan will sit and watch the world change around her.

Treaties like the TPP need to be weighed careful as once you are in it gets together to leave again.

Any treaty comes with plus and minus sides for all signatories, the people that think signing the TPP and stuff gets cheaper and japan will benefit major are mistaken, IMHO. Sign as a weaker partner and most likely you will get few real benefits for your economy not talking about personal wallets(as many posters seem to do here).

Same thing with Greece leaving the Euro, that would be felt worldwide due to the needed adjustments in trade, business, etc. And those overseas adjustments can hurt Greece more than staying with the Euro.

Got a fun example:

A friend was in Japan last Year, So I served him some Haig Dimple (15yr old).

He was shocked that I can afford it easily and it is readily available, took him to my local liquor shop and now he is ordering from there as even with delivery he can get it here cheaper than in his local store and he can get a wider selection there too than at his local shop. Granted he places larger orders for himself and his buddies.

You will find the same globally, where people buy local products overseas because they can get it cheaper.

Stuff like that will ruin the local economy when local goods are sold cheaper overseas and retailers buy from overseas rather than local. Hint: Most top-quality fruits, etc are reserved for export only.

TPP may be a modern Trojan Horse. Given the US imperialistic actions globally, joining such a pact is likely to be akin to opening the Gate for the horse to enter. Obama's words, "our ultimate goal which is a seamless regional economy" ring odd. "We consider it a top priority. And we consider it a top priority because we're not going to be able to put OUR folks back to work and grow OUR economy and expand opportunity unless the Asia-Pacific region is also successful." One problem with Obama's logic, is that somehow TPP will reduce unemployment In US and improve the US economy. NAFTA accelerated the hollowing of the US manufacturing, and caused massive bleeding out of jobs. Total nonsense. Any manufacturer will opt to pay the factory workers as little as possible to improve the profit margin. Manufacturing jobs in developed nations will continue to migrate to developing nations. TPP, NAFTA, and the like have the exact opposite effect of creating jobs in developed countries. Seems to me that it's more like setting the groundwork for furthering Manifest Destiny across the Pacific. Shall we name it OCEANIA?

Agree, the idea that the TPP will benefit everyone and will make everyone richer is just so much Utopia.

Haha ! Another bluff by the US government for their own benifit. Naa-ahhh Asian countries will prevail and this is what US is afraid of.
