Tokyo would be the worst of the four choices; overcrowded, destruction of city greenery, high prices without the Olympics - imagine what prices will be like with the Olympics. Chicago would be nice but Rio... Party City.

hopefully the IOC will remember Nagano in '96 when the JOC promised all kinds of things for the athletes and tourists and then as the games got closer pulled out of 90% of those promises..the old japanese bait-and-switch

Chicago has always been my kinda town. Chicago is.

I agree with DeepAir65, I cannot remember the last Olympics held in S. America. They should have their turn. Japan had the Nagano Olympics, the U.S. had Salt Lake City, Greece represented Europe while South America is batting a goose egg in my memory of recent Olympics.

I still say Madrid, an old town with a lot of history and established tourist infrastructure. Also central to americas, asian and african travellers.

When I been to Rio it was nice but at the same time the crime rate is seriously bad and not much there once you leave the tourist area. Plus, I doubt that the got the finances/infrastructure to pull it off.

Not sure about Chicago what does it have to offer beside the Olympics? Major point people want to see more than just a few stadiums and hotels.

Against tokyo as asia had a few olympics/world-cups/etc recently and don't think it will benefit anyone.

Just my view.

Sweet Home, Chicago.

2016 olympics after London(english) olympics ,should be hosted a nation which is not english speaking. That is Japanese Japan, Portuguese Brazil, and Spanish Spain.

There also no problem, if USA(english) become host, in 2016.

All 4 nations make great host, but the lucky nation will be decided in 2009.

All Nations must go all out in 2009, to get the IOC international members votes.

Give it to Rio....it would be cool to see the Olympics down there. Chicago is a great city but people in the US hardly watch the Olympics anymore. Tokyo would be great as well... Madrid? Just doesn't do much for me but I can't say I have any reason why...

Anywhere but Tokyo. This city has lots of issues on its hands without trying to host one of the largest sporting events on the planet. The money wasted on the Olympics could also be better utilized addressing a number of serious issues in this city. With regard to the other three contenders, I think I would like to see South America get a turn. The US has hosted the Olympics a number of times over the last 20-30 years (Atlanta, Lake Placid, Los Angeles, Salt Lake), while the Spaniards put on the show in Barcelona. At the same time, however, from an infrastructure point of view, I don't know how successsful Brazil could be in organizing such an event. Finally, with regard to Japan, I think Nagano blotted Japan's copy book with all the bribes that were passed, etc. As Capone pointed out, when bidding for the games, Japan made extensive promises (and some would say bribes) to make sure it won. However, when the games were close to being held, Japan tried to renege on some of these promises.

Tokyo does not deserve the olympics!! but they will probably give the biggest bribes, sorry Presents.

I think Baghdad would benefit immensely if the olympics were held there. If people will go to china then why not?

Japan is crowded enough. Anywhere but Tokyo, please!

Spain and the US have both 'recently' hosted the Olympics, and there's no way in hell Tokyo deserves it (despite all the Japanese on here rushing to vote that the do). South America has never had the Olympics, is host to all sorts of ethnic backgrounds (Brazil in particular), and would make an excellent and refreshing location. My vote's with Rio, and I think Rio's going to get it. I think the order will go:

Rio Madrid Chicago Tokyo

The only thing I'm not sure about is whether Madrid or Chicago will finish second. Japan will, in all likelihood, have to drop out in shame again after spending billions and ending up with no shot in hell.

IOC members vote, which way will the go. I predict also Brazilian first olympics in 2016.

IOC members/Other International sport meet members, like to vote like this way. Like World cup2010, in south africa, Youth olympics 2010 games in Asean singapore and Commonwealth games2010 in India.

Some interpret this as Tokyo "winning" the vote, but am seeing that 58% (on a site focusing on Japan) would like to see the Olympics in a location other than Tokyo. That non-Tokyo vote happens to be split among other cities. Would be interesting to see a head-to-head vote between Tokyo and, say, Rio de Janeiro.

I don't think Tokyo needs the Olympics. Like New York or Paris, it is already established as a major world city. In '64 it made sense, Tokyo needed to make it's name. But why now? Fukuoka would have made more sense. And recent Olympics seem to cost too much money and lead to facilities that don't get adequately utilized in the long term. I don't see it as a good thing for the city.

Brazil too dangerous. Chicago is in America. Madrid? 'Nuff sayd.

It's Tokyo. The only Tokyo detrators I've heard so far are obviously spouting prejudiced notions against the Japanese.

Brazil rio famous for crimes. America olympics in chicago, will be too many times there.

Spanish olympics in spain, is not 1st time hosting ,for spain. ToughGuyBanker, you may be right, hope IOC members agree with you, on Tokyo2016.

JT readers ,make that push for Tokyo2016.

Rio - only cuz it's the only city of the four I've never been to and so that we'd hear endless plays of the fine Duran Duran song of the same name.

Tokyo will win, if they can galvanize the people and local Govt fully behind the idea, that was tokyo's major weak point in round one, they kicked butt in most other aspects of the proposal except that one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't know that Tokyo is adequately prepared to host the Olympics (or the Special Olympics which typically follow). The continuing lack of access for physically challenged folks is a real issue here and the infrastructure is already bursting at the seams with commuters and improvements have not kept pace with the need. I also think the language barriers continue to be surprisingly significant for an international event of this caliber. Outside of the gaijin ghettos, Tokyo is not an international "user friendly" city.

****After 2008 olympics, which is will over in 66 days, there is a need for japan to take over after 2012 games in London. China being now a 7000 billion dolar economy, has done great development for poor developing nations.

Next we need japan to take over after 2012, with olympic games2016 and development help for poor developing nations.

Japan has many multinational corporations of world standard, for all these kind of developement things.**GO TOKYO2016, GO**

The Olympics in Chicago will be a nice way to end the final glorious year of an Obama administration. And, since Spain had the Olympics in 1992, and Japan had the winter olympics in 1998, so you can't really make the argument that the US had it too many times, otherwise you have to go with Rio.

In any case, all four are good choices, so, wherever 2016 ends up, it should be a good year. Of course, the Olympics are diminishing in importance, as well, so it might not be such a big deal at the time, either.

I picked Rio because it's comfortably far from Japan, and due to the time zone difference the events will be shown when it's the middle of the night here, so as not to interfere (hopefully) with my normal TV viewing.

****JT friend,GenkiDesuKa, yousay there is no big deal in 2016olympics, the 2016 olympics is diminishing in importance.

Let japan host then in 2016, because asians badly need more sport activties, while in US/West ,you have so much world championships/other sport world class events to participate.

You do not really need olympics in US/West,there is already too much sport activities/events and sport careers. GenkiDesuKa, you have also good points, in your post, may the best bid win in 2009.

Hope japan/JT readers get to work on this bid, so japan make a most sucessful bid, to win in 2009 IOC voting.****

I hate it when Tokyo, Madrid, both hosted Olympics in the past and they eagerly want it again. USA has had to many Olympics, and the city of Chicago does not deserve Olympic honor. If ANY American city was to get an Olympics, I would hope for it to be New York City. But in our case, Rio de Janeiro2016.

And no, its not dangerous, actually quite the opposite.
