He does make comments that invite misunderstanding

No misunderstanding at all. If someone says black, we cannot interpret it as white.

I wonder if it was a "misunderstanding" that further helped me to suspect he might be the Abe stooge in NHK when he said to subordinates regarding coverage of the recent earthquakes and their possible impact on nuclear power plants: "I hope the reporting will be based on official announcements so that local residents are not unnecessarily made to feel concerned." Or maybe he is truly interested in not concerning a few residents; those who still believe official announcements.

Correct there are NO misunderstandings, this guy momii is just a typical ldp lackey with a poor understanding of right & wrong or history etc, you know a typical politician here.....

As the president of NHK, a public broadcasting entity, he is not misunderstood, he is actually dangerous.

The amount of sugarcoating in this county is enough to give me diabetes.

“He does makes comments that invite misunderstanding”. What the hell does this mean? It makes it sound like Momii’s comments are factual, true and correct, but people don’t have the brains to understand his comments? This fellow Momii has made some outrageous comments, not exactly becoming the head of an organization proclaiming to be politically neutral and independent. The war anybody? How this guy got his job at NHK should be a mystery weren’t it for his boss Shinzo Abe, who put him there so Abe wouldn’t have to be on the phone to NHK anytime he saw or heard something that didn’t support his warped sense on history. And why doesn’t Mr. Ishihara pick up the phone and tell Momii to stifle it or else? Well, Mr. Ishihara, former president of Kyushu Railroad who, at 71, has descended from the heavens to show his face now and then at NHK HQ for a hefty pay check I assume, was one of the fellows who “recommended” Momii for the job. Momii, age 73, who used to be a “Japanese businessman” and former president of Unisys Japan, is also set for the rest of his life by toeing the party line. Sordid people. Buy hey, you could use this to your advantage the next time NHK comes knocking on your door. Just ask if this uyoku, this Momii is still president of NHK and tell them that you can’t support an organization with such right wing views.

When these guys say "I was misunderstood" they actually mean "I accidentally revealed my true opinion." You have to learn the lingo...

Typical ambiguous not-to-step-on-anyone's-toes comment from an Old Boys' Club member to his amakudari chums. New chairman at 71 years of age - ah, Japan! Don't you go changing!

Au contraire Ishihara-san, Mr. Momii is crystal clear in his pronouncements. They all tend to convey the following core message: "Fall in line with the government's wishes - or else."
