If Abe san government had not put so much political capital on staging the 2020 games, the logical course of action would be to call a halt to the whole sorry proceedings. All the controversies and scandals over allegations of corruption and bribery, and for what purpose?

The outrageous and ludicrous costs to the already hard pressed J taxpayer, a hapless and incompetent Tokyo 2020 organizing committee unable to appoint a delivery authority to maintain any semblance of cost structure, governance, or coordination to events that need to follow the IOC’s basic commitment to gender equality.

The 2020 games is overburdened by 33 different sports, any City would struggle to fund what arguably has become a totally impractical, tainted and flawed concept.

Its over. There is no glory perceived anymore in hosting these games. Maybe its time for the committee to reinvent the whole event to make it more attractive, but I'm not holding my breath.

Bach’s just being realistic. It’s hideously expensive to even bid for the Olympics. And he knows you can’t just rely on wealthy autocracies to stage them every time.”

Considering that Bach is a protege of lifelong fascist Juan Antonio Samaranch these comments really hit the mark.

Just look at the state of these people; why would any country with a free choice in the matter be willing to spend $30 billion on this farrago?

A foul band reeking of corruption is what Andrew Jennings calls them, and he's dead right.

Tokyo is a global holiday destination in its own right with so many popular attractions, zoos, parks, shopping, the imperial palace, temples museums, nightlife. One of the drawback London 2012 experienced was a fear of overcrowding, although hotel occupancy rates over the games were at record highs.

LA or Paris? I think LA will be chosen.

Spread the love, countries rather than cities should be awarded the Olympics. Why spend big $ building new sites in one city when quality venues already exist in other cities/towns? Also much better in terms of infrastructures, hotels, transports etc. World cups and other international comps in many/most sports have been doing it for decades, why should the biggest sporting event on the planet stick with the one-city format? Just doesn't make sense. And 3-4 small Olympic villages are easier to build than a massive one.

The Olympics have outgrown themselves and most cities simply can't afford it. Far too expensive for Budapest alone but a joint bid from say Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna could have worked who knows. Plus 2 weeks is long enough for fans willing to travel the 200-300km between the 2 cities, add another hour and you're in Vienna. Same with Japan/Tokyo.

LA already has more than enough stadiums and even there are beaches on east. Neo need to seek villages. In case it needs cooperation of neighbor and entertainment for Olympic visitors, they can move a little soouth. Orange County is waiting with I Disneyland.

Why do these "pickle brains" keep moving this competition around? Keep the Olympics games in same location!

There are countries willing to host the summer games in Asia in 2028, naming China and Korea.

Bach need not worry.

If Tokyo earn plenty ad income, Osaka may plan. If LA make good profit if it was chosen SF may wants next lone. Possibly China?
