Murray is Scottish and Wimbledon is English.
I, like a lot of my fellow English, will be cheering for Federer. That is how bad inter-nation relations have gotten, in the last 20 years, in the UK.
Anyone but a Scot.
Jimizo
Come on, Murray. Win that title and drape yourself in the blue and white of Scotland - rub their noses in it.

Can't be doing with all this hyped-up nationalistic nonsense that surrounds tennis in the UK. Andy Murray will be playing for Andy Murray, not for the UK or Britain or Scotland. Tennis, like golf (certain tournaments excepted) is an individual sport, not a legitimate reason for flying the flag and singing the national anthem.
Personally, I hope Murray wins. Not because he's British, certainly not because he's Scottish, but because he's the underdog. And we Brits always support an underdog. ;)
StanTheMan
Go Federer, can't stand Murray and all the numpties who go crazy for him. True English will never support him.

I'd like Federer to win, just because he is such a legendary player and this would show he still has what it takes. On the other hand, I won't be too sad if Murray wins. Although we'll never hear the end of it from the British, if they only win Wimbledon once every 75 years or so, that's ok!
Jimizo
@dog A proud Scot-hating Englishman using 'gotten'?
marcels
Murray doesn,t have the winning mental edge to win a grand slam,he,s been in 3 grand slam finals and has,nt even won a set in those finals,On the other hand and on the other side of the net you have FED EXPRESS who has won wimbledon 6 times and has the mental edge.... FED to win straight sets....
Jimizo
Great to hear the proud Englanders line up against a Scot. Oh, by the way get - got - got is 'queens' English. I don't know why a proud Englishman would use 'gotten'.
Jimizo
I don't speak the 'queen's' English either. Just wondering why a proud Englishman would use the Anerican 'gotten'.

I'm pretty much 'true English' (whatever that means) and I'll be right behind Murray on Sunday. As will the vast majority of 'England' (and Scotland, and more than likely Ireland and Wales). 'Go Federer' sounds like an Americanism to me, so how can you comment on how the English will react on Sunday?
I am one of your 'fellow' Englishmen and I will be supporting the Scot. By the way, there is no border control nor passport control between England and Scotland. It's the same territory.

StanTheScotHater, how on earth can you make a sweeping statement like "the vast majority of English people"? Have you just travelled the length and breadth of England carrying out market research on the popularity of Andy Murray? Nope, I doubt that very much.
Plenty of tennis courts in the inner cities but I guess you have to know what a tennis court is first to recognise it. This is nothing to do with class and just because tennis is, as you describe it, a middle and upper class sport, it doesn't mean that the whole country will not be supporting Andy Murray on Sunday. Are you telling me that you only follow football and basketball? Have you ever supported Steve Redgrave? (upper class sport) Or wanted England to win the Ashes (middle class sport) I am also working class and my family are from the east end, so I'm afraid that you don't have a monopoly on the working class/ east end thing. Although it's the first time I heard an east ender say 'go Federer'. It would be more like 'come on my son' if you were standing in your local in West Ham.
You also seem to be miseducated about the United Kingdom thing, which explains why you want to hate Andy Murray. This is the United Kingdom now. We share the same parliament, the same currency, the same language, and our 'British' passports. Why oh why an Englishman would rather support a Swiss-South African to win Wimbledon instead of a Scot is probably explained by you thinking that Scotland is a different country.

well said tigertokyodome. im english and will be watching the game hoping he wins. what rubbish about english and scots.
