Linux could scale across generations of hardware. About time they figured this out for smartphones.

The move aims to solve the problem that the wide variety of Android systems used around the world make it challenging for makers of fun, functional or hip smartphone or tablet apps to design programs that work on all devices. Being stuck with old versions of Android also means that users don’t get access to upgrades or improvements cranked out by Google.

Yet bizarrely .they won't be updating the Galaxy Nexus, their very own flagship phone which is barely 2 years old! It's more than capable of handling the upgrade. Dumb decision google, very dumb.

Docomo and Softbank are good with kaigai sumaho as long as they have the giteki mark (which the N5 has).

Emobile would technically be OK but they don't accept any handset they don't supply.

au is right out because there's no possibility for voice service.

A B-mobile SIM would be a nice match. Flexible and really economic.

I just switched the SIM from my Docomo S4 into my Nexus 5. Only thing that was necessary was to subscribe to moperaU from www.mydocomo.com (after you get everything is working you can cancel your sp-mode subscription). Then just pop the SIM in, power the phone up and everything else is automagically set up for you.
