I do not understand how flirting with a virtual doll is exciting.

Tamaoki shrugged off concerns that such an experience could discourage players from going out to meet real women.

Because only loser otaku who have/will never have a girlfriend would find this exciting in the first place

Then it's a safe bet you aren't the target market.

I wouldn't mind attending this, but it certainly wouldn't be to look at the games.

“I think this could improve the communications skills” of even the shiest game players, Tamaoki said.

Yes because the ladies in real life would react similar as in the game. This is a thin line, PERHAPS it DOES help, and it can make them more social, but it can also have a different effect and make them expect similar "positive" reactions in real life from women. Remember this vr game is suppose to be their fantasy world.

Yeah, that is like thinking guys will get better at sex by watching porn.

And still no coverage of the outrageous scandal of the new Toyosu fish market? It's only the lead story on every TV station news and on the front page of every newspaper....

I agree, but that has absolutely no equivalence to this story.

I agree

Or rather I should say I've been wondering about that as well.

Oh ffs, get out there and talk to real women.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

It's easy to scoff at this now, but eventually, these simulations will be so realistic it will be hard to distinguish them from reality. It may take 10 years, maybe 20, but it will happen. And, society will change forever.

These virtual women are designed as products to sell and make a profit, most likely not programmed to be anything like real women...helping actual communication skills is a stretch. They are just fantasy,

Far far too many are already too introverted, this crap will just make society that much more introverted, it scares me to imagine what Japan (& other countries) will be like in 10-20yrs.......thankfully I will be gone or on my way out by then !!

I went to check PS Vita games at Yodobashi Camera last night and I'm not exhagerating when I say that more than 50% of the games were dating games. Ranging from the cute and sexy 13 years looking dolls type to the more (grown up?) adult type. Two racks completely filled with these games. Plus the oher two that had the regular genres were mixed with more dating games. I guess my PS Vita will continue gathering more dust.

But the impact of the trade show is diluted by the absence of stalwarts Nintendo—which has ridden the wave of mobile gaming phenomenon Pokemon Go—and Microsoft.

Nintendo will likely get a bigger chunk of attention by not announcing/releasing the NX at a convention and just doing it on their own — that way, they can dominate the gaming news that day instead of being part of the convention coverage.

One mind blowing thing is that we are all more or less sitting back and watching while our tech and science fírms are taking us closer and closer to what used to be science fiction. The virtual mate at the show is one step but what about all high tech weaponry that today is learning to target and shoot by itself in case the human military staff should miss a potential target. Maybe the movie Terminator was not so much fiction as it was a prognosis. And here we are supporting the tech development... Go figure

Lots of the science fiction I read/watched as a kid is reality now. iPhones are well beyond even the communicators they were using in the stories/movies from back then.

Virtual love is not just something in the geek world.

I do not understand how flirting with a virtual doll is exciting.

It's no different than when some muscled-up movie star makes an appearance and is swarmed by star-addled women. It's the fantasy of personally interacting with someone who is "above your station" - someone who would normally not give you the time of day.

PS Vita is on its way out off the rest of the world. Eventually it'll be mainly Japan-only like the Galapagos phones, and thus only geared to those types of fans. Sony doesn't even have any plans for a successor.

I hope the boys don't mistake real girl standing next to them for VR girl when they try to groping virtual boobs.

I love Nintendo for its games. I play Mario at http://www.kizi2games.net/ . It's the best game ever. And it doesn't matter what they do at the game shows
