I don't see anything new here. Water-resistant...just send you phone to Liquipel. The same technology can be done in the manufacturing process of any phone. As for what killed the Walkman, it was Sony not adapting to the times. They tried to force people to use MD. Then they tried to catch up and missed the price point. Walkman is still around and they are now mp3 players but they lost the market. Sony TV were ubiquitous in the TV industry but not anymore. If you lock at Sony, it was the acquisition of Columbia Pictures that destroyed Sony. Ever since then, Sony has lost not just market share in every area but lost its leadership and edge. Based on the results, Sony seems to think of itself and an entertainment company instead of a world class manufacturer.

I am too busy in life to think about fancy waterproofing service. I'd rather buy a phone that has already that feature. And so I did, I bought it. I am so loving this SONY branded phone! And here's the thing! I am also getting the new SONY XPERIA Z ULTRA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h45uTBGftkQ and The PLAYSATION 4.

I predict the death of Android if they do not stop to clutter and spam all the new devices the way they are doing it recently, this is a nightmare, there are tons of services pumping your Bandwidth started by those carriers and manufacturers, some of them looks also very "privacy invasion" friendly...

such a generic design. Unlike the samsung s3 or the htc one, i cant tell this apart from the hundred's of decently priced high spec phones they have at chinabuye.com

A silly and practically useless 'function' to be pumping while other, long ago established companies and their phones, boast applications and functions that are actually meaningful. Well, true, I DO know a bunch of woman who keep their phones in their back pockets and ultimately drop them in the toilet, but still.

I have a Sharp waterproof phone good for 2.4 meters. It is over five years old now. Take it with me kayaing. No touch screen stuff and without any apps but battery still runs for four days on standby. Simple works.

I agree with much is said about Sony's failings but I still use the MD format. Great for capturing music off the streaming services. Best sound comes from AAC+ down to ATRAC. Only MP3 at 128 or higher can match it. Simple works and keeps on working.

Let the jeers begin.

I don't see what the big deal is. I have had several water proof and dust proof phones since I been in Japan.
