Japan tourism update -- Interview with Hiroshi Sawabe

In this interview filmed on Sept 24 at the JATA Tourism Expo 2016 in Tokyo, Japan, Hiroshi Sawabe, Executive Director of the Office of International Tourism, at JATA (Japan Association of Travel Agents), speaks to Steven Howard of Travel News Asia about the status of tourism within the country.

We talk about the JATA Tourism Expo, what is different this year, how technology has been used to enhance the buyer and seller experience, which big names the conference attracted to the Expo and more.

We talk about the dates for 2017, whether JATA has any plans to expand the event so that it moves around different areas of the country as well as the buyer/seller numbers and how they differ with 2015.

We also discuss tourism to the country, what the Japanese government is doing to improve the quality of spoken English within Japan (as a start), how visitor arrivals compared to 2015 and which markets are the strongest performers.
