Another incident in the US of a domestic terrorist committing an atrocity with a firearm. It's too early to know what the motive might have been, but hats off to the police for arresting him. May justice be served and the killer rot on earth. RIP police who were killed. Condolences to their families, friends and the communities they served.

When an atrocity is committed by a Muslim extremist somewhere in the world, many non-Muslims want to see every Muslim denounce the atrocity, they want them to go out on the streets and protest against the atrocity. They expect Muslim leaders to acknowledge the atrocity from their pulpits and somehow accept responsibility for it.

Given the number of gun deaths in the US, and taking a turnabout is fair play approach, I think US American gun owners should be out on the streets denouncing atrocities like this one. Every preacher, regardless of sect, should be denouncing it from their pulpits. The NRA should take the lead in protesting against gun violence. The gun manufacturers and sellers should donate money to the innocent victims of gun deaths and to funds for police personnel killed in the line of duty by a gunman.

Statistically speaking, the fact that majority of the terrorist attacks recorded the world over have an islamic link cannot be overemphasized. A "friend" of mine on Facebook posted the same view but was thoughtful enough to post the link to the right-wing site this idea festered from. Nobody wants this kind of thing to happen, but let's face it: done by "brown" people, this triggers a massive (some might saw overblown) reaction; when by whites, it is swept under the rug.

The Supreme Court has affirmed the right to receive an abortion. Many do not agree with this on both ends of the political spectrum, and most of those protest peacefully. A certain faction, though - invariably right-wing - whips up rhetoric against abortion so strong as to virtually guarantee violent reaction, and they then act outraged when the natural results of their actions bear fruit, and their outrage is invariably directed at their political counterparts so as to wash their hands of their responsibility.

This doesn't wash with anyone with half a brain. Guns and violent rhetoric do not mix.

Wc626, if you can stomach a real comparison, I'd suggest you consider a world in which a potential gun owner is forced to view photos of the horrific damage guns do to the human body, wait for 48 hours, and then only be able to purchase a gun at a hospital with an accredited psychological staff. Since its inception Planned Parenthood has directly ended the life of around 7,000,000 people. Planned Parenthood killed 327,653 people in fiscal year 2014 alone. Planned Parenthood receives over 50% of its annual income from the fees charged for abortions in its clinics.

At around 13% of the US population, African Americans account for over 30% of abortions on a yearly basis. Latino Americans at 16% of the population account for around 20%. White Americans with over 63% of the population represent around 36% of the abortions. Not only are Black Americans killed at a higher percentage than whites but according to some sources they represent an actual majority with more blacks being killed than whites despite their much smaller percentage of the total population.

Planned Parenthood has stated that they will never deny a client’s wish for an abortion regardless of the reason. So in other words if an expectant mother seeks an abortion from Planned Parenthood because she doesn’t like the gender of her fetus, Planned Parenthood will kill it for her.

From a non-pro choice perspective, Planned Parenthood is, at the least, a business that generates the majority of its income from the contract killing of completely innocent and helpless individuals. At worst, it is an organization that not only kills the helpless for money but is also doing it as an accomplice in the State sponsored genocide of people of color.

See your mistake is seeing fundamentalism as the representation of the religion, rather than the perversion of the individual. If it were the representation of the religion, all members of the religion, or nearly all, would be that way espoused by the fundamentalists. And you can find screwed up individuals in almost any group, not just religious ones.
